Stella D'Oro — Restaurant in Funchal

Great Italian restaurant, we tried this as it was close to our hotel and it did not disappoint, in fact it impressed so much we returned the following evening. On the first occasion we have 2 mains and the garlic bread starter (huge). My lasagne was delicious and my wife's chicken dish was great too. On our return visit we skipped the starters and hung in there for desert. My chefs special ravioli was delicious, my wife had a chicken ravioli in a curry sauce, it was nice but I think it surprised her. Still, we both had desserts which were great, tiramisu for my wife, creme brulé for me. We also had a bottle of house Rose which went down well with the meal.

I'd certainly recommend the place, the food and staff were great and it was certainly popular. On bringing the bill they also bring complimentary Madeira wine, I couldn't it drink as I'm a gout sufferer (high in purines) but my wife appreciated...

We stopped for pizza and loved this place so much, we made reservations for dinner a few nights later. We were totally impressed! Delicious food, good selection of reasonably priced items on their menu, relaxing atmosphere and excellent service. This is not a snack bar so don’t expect “quick and dirty” service. The waiters were experienced, answered all our questions and made wise recommendations. The first time we went, we ordered a half-pizza with salad and it was great. For our next visit, my wife had the giant shrimp platter and I had the chicken/shrimp pasta. Our meals were outstanding! Our waiters, Francesco and Benny, were always quick and courteous and made it easy for us to converse in English. What a beautiful find and amazing experience! Many thanks to the staff. This restaurant was a treat! We were looking for a good pizza place and found so much more. The fish soup was rich and full of flavor. The shrimp ravioli in mango and cream sauce was absolutely delicious; it came with shrimp on the side and was decorated with herbs, edible flowers and freshly grated cheese. The supreme pizza was fantastic and very good value. The desserts of the day did not disappoint! The chocolate mousse was dark and smooth, the tiramisu light and fluffy and the Toblerone pie came with a lovely scoop of ice cream and was drizzled with caramel.
