My biggest regret was not going into this charming little cafe sooner. The people that work there are super friendly and spoke English to help me. Prices are very affordable and not inflated for tourists.
You can order then they will bring everything to your table. They had pastries every day which was a nice little breakfast and the rest can vary a bit. One day they had sandwiches, already wrapped, and another day they had empanadas.
Stopping here to get breakfast and a coffee became part of my morning routine while visiting Funchal and picking up some food for lunch was my plan A for going on day trips, but you may need to have a plan B and they are closed on Sundays. Both were delicious though. I wish I had gotten two meat empanadas instead of one.

I went for a juice, a coffee, and two toastsâone tuna and one ham and cheese. Both were on lightly toasted white bread. My tuna toast was fresh and tasty, definitely not like the usual tinned stuff you get back in the UK. The ham and cheese one was a bit greasy, but still pleasant overall.
