The White House — Restaurant in Funchal

The one star is for the waitress, she was friendly and pleasant, however she was serving indoors mostly. Outside we had the man who unless you are portugues or female, in which case he will crawl all over you, do not expect to get served in a hurry. I read that the owner says the staff are attentive!! What a joke. The food wasn't even the best, the mac n cheese was mostly cheese with a little macaroni, the scabbard fish was OK but the passion fruit mayo was too sweet for my liking. Unfortunately due the shocking ignorance of the waiter, we then had to go inside and ask for the bill as we were not prepared to have to beg for a drink, so we then proceeded to a bar around the corner called the hole in one, where the staff are attentive and the food is a lot better. My Favorite Pub in Funchal!

White House Pub is hands down my favorite spot in Funchal. The food is always great — and the Caesar salad is honestly one of the best I’ve ever had! They also have a huge variety of drinks, including lots you don’t usually find in other bars around Madeira, which is a big plus.

Today I ordered through Glovo and noticed my favorite dish was missing from the app. I gave them a quick call, and in just a few minutes, they updated the menu so I could order it. Super quick and super helpful!

The staff here really make the place special. They always welcome us with a big smile, and since we’re regulars, they even call us by our names — it’s such a nice, personal touch that makes us feel right at home.

We visited twice and the place really depends on who's working that day. First day was amazing but second was far from it. The waiter got the orders wrong, never cleaned up the table but just kept adding plates, leaving both empty glasses and used plates, had to ask twice for them to remove them. Took over ten minutes to get the drink menu after dinner and the two waiters blamed each other for the delay.

But the firs night was amazing service, that's the reason we came back. Hopefully they were new to the job and they will get better. Being slow and forgetting things are ok for a new person. But blaming your colleagues, being unpolite and having very little customer service is not really that good.
