My partner and I walked into Happy’s at 6:30pm looking for a table for 2. About 5 tables were taken, with about 8-10 empty. A few of those were reserved.
When the host came over, we asked if there was space for 2. “No, we are fully booked. Bye!”
I’m sure the food is good. I’m sure the service is fine, if you get a seat. But, the service otherwise is horrendous. We ended up standing outside for another 30-40 minutes trying to figure out what to do for dinner, and not once did we see anyone go in.
There were so many other things the host could have said:
“I’m sorry, we are fully booked until 7:30-8pm” “I’m sorry, we are fully booked, but I can put you down on a waiting list in case of a no show” “I’m sorry, we are fully booked at 7:30pm. If you can be done with the table (almost an hour), we can seat you”
All of those are feasible options that we’ve presented to our own guests and some that have been presented to us in other establishments. The abruptness by the host was unnecessary and...
Read moreAte here on Tuesday 4th August. The owner (sorry can't remember name) is the most friendly and happy guy you will ever meet. We walked past the restaurant earlier during the day and the owner gave us a big smile and wave. We decided to eat there on our last night of our trip after reading the positive reviews. Portions were generous, make sure you come with an appetite! And huge measures for drinks. The garlic bread was amazing and I thought I would try fish and chips (I asked for small fish) and wow that did not disappoint. Being English, I know a good fish and chips and this was delicious. Partner had chicken skewer which he enjoyed. We shared an apple pie which came with both ice cream and cream as we couldn't decide! The meal was great value for money, we enjoyed everything we ate, but what made it was the friendly owner who you can tell loves chatting to customers and has a warm way about him. My only regret was waiting until the last night...
Read moreLooks are deceptive. This place is an absolute gem. The owner is the most enigmatic and gracious host you could ask for. He is polite , friendly and we can see where the name Happy's comes from. He was brilliant. The food, which we believe made by his wife and family was outstanding and a good price. The fish and chips were the best I've ever had, not to mention the largest! My god I nearly died finishing the full portion of fish, it was huge! I thought the portion of chips was small, and I did gain a few from the family, but when put with mushy peas and the fish the size of a whale on your plate, I struggled. My wife had the chicken skewers which came out hanging from a plate and she said it was delicious. The kids shared an adult portion of fish and chips and we got extra chips and this was more than enough for two hungry kids. A fantastic experience from the most friendly owner you will meet. Please drop in and you will not be...
