Our party of three were left disappointed after eating here last night after what was to be honestly terrible service from the start to the end of our meal. Starting when they brough out our jug of sangria and bottle of water and just plonked it on the table with the glasses. Also the water was 75cl which is smaller than you usually get (I can only go on what we have been served all week in different restaurants which is usually 1lt) and arrived at our table at room temperature when this should have been chilled. This was the first time all week we had not been served our drinks like this. We ordered some tapas to start with and to be honest we all agreed it was lovely and tasty. Our main courses arrived about an hour after ordering them and one of our party had pasta with prawns and simply did not get anywhere near finishing her meal as it had no sauce or flavour to speak of. The other 2 mains were ok at best. But to top of a very average meal the waitress taking our payment and returning our change did not ask once how the meal was and there was not one thankyou. All the serving staff seamed unpolite and uninterested. Really disappointed as we have eaten out all week here and had great food and service. Also no complimentary drinks/sweets after...
Read moreAbsolutely, the worst restaurant I went to in Portugal during a recent trip.
Ordered bread and olive which never arrived. And also ordered mixed salads, which never arrive as well, but they billed us for it.
The food was so bad. We ordered grilled sea bream. What a waste of a fresh fish. Moist but taste bland, served with sorry overcooked looking vegetables. Definitely not worth 55 euros per kg for a fish that costs around 9 euros per kg at the supermarket. That 5.5x mark up is not just justifiable for such poor cooking!
The Portuguese steak taste so bad. Never had steak that bad for years.
Their shrimp omelette was so dry and tasted very bland. How do you messed up an omelette?
But the worst part was their Octopus!!!! My son asked me, “why does octopus has similar texture as chicken?” This was his first time trying octopus. I got so alarmed that I had to try the octopus that he had eaten quite a bit. It was the absolute worst pop up I’ve ever had. It tasted rancid! I believe it is already spoiled. That they never should have cooked or served to anyone. It was very fishy and nauseating.
Not sure why this restaurant gets such a high reading about four, but I will never ever recommend this...
Read moreWe ate twice at Casa Algarvia (somewhat due to our choice of a low season trip and the resulting restaurant closures. Id say 60%+ of restaurants close during the winter season.) This restaurant was a very popular choice among locals and long term stays. Our first night we enjoyed 800 gr (sold by weight) of the freshest Sea Bass, introduced to us at our table. Preparation was outstanding over a hot wood fire. It was also the most expensive of our meals in the Algarve with price per lb. equivalent to US prices. The 2nd visit we went old school Portuguese with Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá (roasted salt cod) and Porco à Alentejana (roasted pork and clams.) The pork and clams was delicious but the cod was a bit too strong flavored. (The nature of salt cod I believe.) We had an excellent green salad each night and the wine list was fantastic and filled with local favorites. Service was very attentive even with this being the most crowded place...
