Unfortunately, my experience at this place was extremely disappointing. I honestly don’t understand how it has a rating above 4.

The burger was just meat and bread — no sauce, no vegetables, nothing. The tuna salad was a mix of canned tuna and beans, which felt more like a survival ration than a restaurant dish. The Greek salad was a complete letdown — Greece deserves better. And the couvert? Cheap, long-life bread that you’d expect in a supermarket, not a restaurant.

To be honest, the quality of the food makes me seriously question the skills of the chef. Either it’s time to find a new one, or at least send the current one to a proper cooking school — urgently.

Definitely a restaurant that caters to tourists, but the staff is friendly and patient with people stumbling with poorly-spoken Portuguese, and the food is more than acceptable. My wife and I went here on two nights, trying different things each time. The goat cheese-stuffed mushrooms with honey is a great appetizer. The cataplana and swordfish Algarvia were both a touch fishy, but I’m sensitive to that particular flavor. The steak Portuguese style was excellent, served with a garlicy brown sauce. The risotto with prawns was also good. The wine list isn’t huge, but has enough selections where you’re guaranteed to find something you’ll like. We have been visiting here for the last six years, this has fast become my favourite restaurant in Carvoeiro and that is with a lot of excellent competition! On this holiday, we visited twice and both occasions were outstanding. If you are a lover of Lamb, you must try the Lamb chops, delicious and a very good portion size for the price. The Entrecote was fantastic too, cooked med-rare perfectly as requested. For dessert I tried the chocolate brownie with toffee sauce and ice cream. Deeeeelicious! The waiting staff, luckily, have been the same over six years which is great as they are so polite, always smiling and just add to the great consistency that "the lantern" has kept going.
