Restaurante Ao Largo — Restaurant in Leiria

Slightly disappointed with this relatively new restaurant in this very popular local restaurant area of Leiria. Decor inside and out is very urban and trendy but the food although tasty, wasn't the best Portuguese cuisine I've had before. Maybe they were too busy to cope with the very busy Portuguese lunch hours demand. Prices were slightly more expensive than the rest of the other restaurants close by which sadly didn't reflect on their food aspect or taste for these lunchtime set menu prices in the end.... I'm willing to give it another try with some of my Portuguese friends next time I'm in Leiria, Portugal to see what they think of it as regular restaurant clients around this very popular inner city dining area...

Péssima experiência neste restaurante! Não tinha uma comida gostosa. Mas o que mais nos deixou surpresos foram as cobranças na nota fiscal. O couvert quando sentamos estava já na mesa. Até aí td bem. Éramos 7 adultos e duas crianças. Tinham 3 cestos de pão com 5 meias fatias cada cesto. Um pote bem pequeno com algumas azeitonas sem sabor algum e nem sal. Tinha uma manteiga e um mini prato com 4 fatias finas de queijo de cabra. 3 garrafas de água da casa tb já estavam à mesa quando sentamos, ou seja, da torneira q ao nosso ver, estava sendo nos oferecido pq não era água mineral. Tudo cobrado à parte! Com um mísero couvert gastamos 28, euros mais 9 euros de água da torneira!!! E nada foi pedido por nós! E nem avisado que não era oferecido. Já estavam na mesa quando nos sentamos. Se tivessem falado que aquilo que estava era pago nem comeríamos pq nem o pão estava bom, duro, frio e dormido. Péssimo! O prego no prato (bife com batata frita) era carne dura que não dava pra criança mastigar e nem mesmo o adulto, pq nós tentamos! E vinha com um molho cheio de vinagre! Resumindo: não nos espere nunca mais! Pagar por água da torneira é muita cara de pau! Se ainda tivesse uma comida boa, eu até pagava feliz! Mas nem isso. Péssima...

I had the tuna with Sesam seeds and the honey and mustard sauce. It was a real discovery for me and will surely keep a beautiful memory of that experience. The price is a bit above the average compared to what one usually finds in Portugal but the quality of the food and of the wine is there. It is really worth it.
