Our server seemed new to the job. He wasn’t entirely familiar with the dishes restaurant served (we showed him a photo of a dish to ask what it is and he answered wrong), almost got us the wrong wine until my sister caught him before he opened the bottle, and lastly accidentally knocked over my wine glass and spilled red wine on me.

I understand everybody has their first time and can make mistakes, so I don’t want to blame the server too much, but I just wasn’t entirely satisfied with how the owner handled that situation. He and the server did apologize and offered us each a glass of cherry alcohol. However, given the spilled wine was all over the table, the food, part of my hair, my light colored jeans, boots, and a wool sweater I had bought the day before, I would have appreciated it more if he had offered the main dish or at least a dessert on the house. The airbnb we were staying thankfully had a washer so some of the stains came off, but I would still need to wash them thoroughly again when I get home from the trip. He also made a mistake in the bill initially by charging us more with a wrong dish by the way.

Overall, it was a series of unfortunate mistakes done to us and I wish the service and/or the food was impressive enough to...

Bistro Carioca was an absolutely amazing experience. From the moment of walking through the door you’re greeted by the owner Raphael, who is super friendly, inviting, and energetic.

He made excellent suggestions of the meals. The food was incredible (one of my top meals I’ve had in my 3 weeks travelling 4 countries). I’m usually not much of a sweets person, but I had the platter of desserts to share and they were delicious and I’m still craving more! Raphael even played some live music on his guitar during the meal which made for a great atmospheric feel.

After our meal we talked with Raphael and his wife Valentina for a bit as he explained how they got to opening the restaurant and you can tell they are super passionate about what they do, they really want you to enjoy your meal and your time there.

I highly recommend eating here and I will definitely...

My partner and I popped into this restaurant on a whim whilst on holiday in Lisbon. A group of customers sitting outside encouraged us to go in and told us we would be in for a treat. They were absolutely correct. We visit a lot of restaurants, but we both agreed this was the best meal we had had together in some time. If I lived in Lisbon I would be coming here very frequently! The food was outstanding and each plate was incredibly well balanced. The gentleman in charge of service looked after everyone with magnificent energy, and there was some lovely live music in the background. If I ever return to Lisbon, this will be my first destination. If you’re considering going, absolutely do, like the customers before us said, you’ll be in...

Bistro Carioca is more than a restaurant, it is an experience. My travel companion and I were lucky enough to discover this hidden gem during our stay in Lisbon. Owners Rafa and Valentina, a husband and wife duo, have successfully created a welcoming and lively dining establishment with their newly opened Bistro Carioca. I ordered the delicious pasta and eggplant meat (less) balls cooked by chef Valentina. My tastebuds did cartwheels. The scrumptious meal was accompanied by musical entertainment provided by the multitalented owner Rafa. If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience Bistro Carioca is a must!

Exquisite, phenomenal, delicious. The pasta with eggplant meatballs tasted so nostalgic it brought me back to my childhood in my Nonna’s kitchen. The shrimp with wine sauce was divine and the shrimp were extremely high quality. The moqueca was absolutely spot on. I went with a Brasilian and he also really enjoyed the meal! Bistro Carioca does not cut any corners on high quality ingredients and it’s evident in the taste of their food. The Bistro is run by a Brasilian couple and their heart and soul is in the place and it’s reflected in the outstanding food and service. I WILL BE BACK!
