The positives first. The rooms are clean (I stayed in 2 different rooms). Daily maid service is nice. The hotel seems quiet (small boutique-type hotel in a neighborhood). The breakfast is good, adequate, and the attendants are nice. Desk staff are nice but could be better at resolving issues (see comments). ||The average or negatives. This is a neighborhood that is pretty scary at times. I had no problems but there are some rough characters in the narrow streets. I literally saw drug dealers, drug deals, and their strung-out customers. However, I didn't really feel threatened by them. I felt that several places throughout Lisbon though. Rough looking people in some areas but I didn't feel threatened by them, not aggressive at all. The streets are filthy and have a lot of trash. I did see a couple of homeless people (women actually) that were obviously spending the night on the street (a little "nest" on the sidewalk to the Metro station). ||I did have one continuous issue during my stay. The air conditioning was not working properly. Actually, was the control panel with a malfunction. I had to talk to the desk clerk every day and multiple times they had to adjust the A/C from the master control panel. I was told it was going to be fixed and it never was. I finally went during the day and spoke to the manager. He was nice, apologetic, and resolved the issue by moving me to another room (on my LAST night). There would have been less of heated conversation had the desk clerk communicated with me, reported my dissatisfaction earlier, explained what they were trying to do with the repair company, etc. Final comment, the manager and day clerk fixed the problem to my satisfaction. ||Everything was very good to excellent except for that day's long A/C issue and the neighborhood. Do your homework. Can you manage the few negatives for an otherwise...
Read moreI stayed at Hotel Mouraria for one night with my 9-year-old daughter over the weekend. Keep in mind, it's a two-star hotel, so don't expect too much. However, I personally believe the experience deserves a higher rating. Despite the room being small and missing some basic amenities like a kettle, fridge, or wardrobe, it was exceptionally clean, modern, and well-presented. The bed was comfortable, and there was no outside noise, making it perfect for a good night's sleep.|The breakfast had a good variety of options, including continental and English choices. A friendly waitress made sure everything was available, and the breakfast room had a modern and youthful atmosphere. The hotel is situated in a small alley near the Martim Moniz area in Lisbon, known for its diverse and ethnic character. Despite the neighborhood appearing a bit rundown, dirty, and having homelessness/drug issues, I always felt safe during my walks, thanks to a noticeable presence of people and police. It was actually an eye-opener. The hotel's proximity to downtown areas like Rossio, Chiado, and Terreiro do Paço, along with the Martim Moniz underground station, are significant advantages. You can easily walk to all the main central areas from there.|If you're a fan of Asian cuisine, Martim Moniz, with options like the Oriental Market, is a great choice.||The staff at Hotel Mouraria was very friendly and attentive during check-in and breakfast. However, there was a slight dip in service during check-out. The young lady, while not impolite, seemed completely disinterested, which isn't ideal in the hospitality industry, especially since check-out is the last impression a guest has before leaving. Despite this, it didn't have a significant impact on the...
Read moreDecent hotel, but: poor service failure handling!
Rooms: Smaller than expected, but clean. Location: Good for sight seeing. Breakfast: Average, nothing special. Price: Comparably high. Customer focus: NOT given.
For our weekend Trip to Lisbon, we were searching for a nice hotel near the city center - and found Mouraria Hotel.
The staff was friendly. The room we got was smaller than expected, but had a modern style and was clean.
Already when going to bed the first night, we were switching off the AC in order to avoid noise. Yet, in the middle of the night, there was a loud noise which was obviously caused by the (switched off) AC. It was so loud that we were not able to sleep - even with ear plugs! It was about the amplitude of a washing machine’s spin cycle mode.
The next morning, I complained about my experience. The friendly receptionist could not offer us an alternative room, we could stay for the three remaining nights continuously. So we stayed in our room and hoped for the best - knowing that a mechanic tried to fix the AC during the day. Turns out: We had a very bad second night.
After that second bad night, we moved to an other room, where we had two quiet and relaxing nights.
During check-out I asked the receptionist for a refund - at least for the first night. Having talked to the hotel director she confirmed that there will be NO refund. That really shocked me!!!
Service failures can always occur, but it is crucial how you deal with it. In this case it felt like it was my personal problem as a hotel guest - not the problem of the hotel.
I would not stay in the hotel again nor recommend it to...
