Who would have thought I would had to travel over 5000 miles for a decent slice?

So I am a born and raised New Yorker. I was raised on the best pizza in the world…. NY style pizza. If you know anything about it, you can get a good slice, or you can get… well… let’s not go there

So in 2020 I left NY and now reside in California. California does not know pizza. Sorry Cali, there are some things you do great, pizza isn’t one of them. So for that reason, it’s been 5 years since I have had any decent pizza.

That was until this week. I traveled to Lisbon for the first time and heard about Rico Pizza, NY style. I was skeptical, as any good New Yorker would be.

THIS IS THE BEST NEW YORK PIZZA THIS SIDE OF THE ATLANTIC!!! The minute I bit into that crisp crust and tasted that sweet sauce, it brought me right back to my childhood. I ordered the Tomate e burrata. The super soft, fresh, milky burrata melted effortlessly into the flavors that Rico has developed. I also sampled the Pepperoni and the crisp baked pepperoni danced on my tongue!!!

Rico has captured the essence of what it is to be called New York Pizza. If you are from the states, you need to try a slice here. If you are from Europe…. It’s time for your American Pizza Education. Be prepared, because school is in session!!!!

What a great find! We are always looking for good pizza here in Lisbon, and the amazing reviews here on Google led us to check out Rico Pizza in Alcântara. Indeed, this pizza is on par with some of the best New York style pizza we've had (ever) and we will be back! The owners told us about the specials (including a new hot honey dipping sauce that we ordered with our garlic bread...YUM) and we ordered two pizzas - the two most popular: regular and pepperoni. We added burrata to the pepperoni at the owner's suggestion. Heavenly! The regular pizza was great - sourdough crust, just the right combination of soft, chewy and crispy. But the pepperoni pizza was truly amazing, with crispy edged, smoky delicious pepperoni slices covering the entire surface. We used up every drop of that hot honey dip on it! I'm bringing everyone I know to Rico Pizza!! I went there with a group of friends and we ordered several different pizzas to share, and EVERY single slice was a winner (although the spinach and lemon one earned a special place in my heart...). The perfect combination of crispy crust and smoky flavor, and the ingredient quality genuinely made me tear up. The atmosphere also hits all the right notes: cozy space, great music, and lovely staff. Speaking with the owners was a delight - their passion for this place really shows, and they clearly love getting their hands in the dough (or "pôr as mãos na massa" in Portuguese, pun intended...) and watching customers enjoy every bite of the result.

The whole experience was exactly what you want from a pizza place. Highly recommend and wish them all...
