One of Lisbon's (dare I say, the country's?) best restaurants. Although the restaurant has valet parking, I highly recommend taking an Uber, because the restaurant is located in a picturesque but old neighborhood with narrow streets and with very few parking places available. So, take an Uber... and then you can eat and drink all you want, and don't have to worry about driving afterwards. The owners, Zé Tó and Susana, are amazing hosts, very welcoming. All of staff is very friendly and professional. You will feel right at home! Amazingly delicious food, respecting the Southern Portuguese traditions, a really cozy atmosphere and an impressive wine list are the highlights of the restaurant. I see a lot of people here complaining about the fact that all the starters and appetizers are charged. You do know that you can send back all the starters that are placed on the table, right? These are not complimentary. They cost money. It's normal, in ANY restaurant in Portugal, to charge the customer for bread, olives, cheese, ham, etc... But if you don't want them... then don't eat them. Just say "thank you but I don't want them" and the waiters will take them back. Easy, right? Just relax and enjoy the experience. Take your time to savor the food and the wine. It will be worth it, really!

BEWARE - Another tourist trap in Portugal, sadly. We read all of the reviews and thought we found a hidden gem in Lisbon. Sadly this restaurant is another highway robbery. The restaurant had several appetizers out on the table see picture which we were of the understanding that these were complimentary and a welcome sight to the start of our meal. During no point in time at the meal where we ever informed that these were extras that we would be expected to pay for at the conclusion of the meal. My wife had a steak. She ordered medium rare towards the medium side. It came out well done. Additionally, at the end of the meal the restaurant which has several credit card stickers in the window. Picture, let me know that their credit card machine wasn't working and that I was welcome to visit an ATM or to return to pay and cash. There was a large showing of demonstrating that the credit card machine didn't work, but as the other reviews have stated this is intentional and the restaurant I'm convinced is strictly a cash business at this point. I'm not quite sure how this restaurant even made the Michelin list as their food was subpar and mediocre at best. Additionally, the dog and pony show that we were provided left us feeling like tourists that were robbed while we're spending our hard-earned money and time at an establishment trying to enjoy our vacation. Would never recommend this place and establishments like this make tourists feel like they are being taken advantage of by predators when coming and visiting Lisbon.

Food was actually 3 stars but I really enjoyed the atmosphere so changed it to 4. To be fair, I took something very specific (Wild Boar Monteiro Real) and didn’t enjoy it that much, which could’ve been a very different experience with a more standard dish. My partner chose Pork Scallops which was done to perfection. Even though table was full of appetizers we still tried their Garlic Shrimp and to be honest it was amazing. Probably the freshest one we had is Lisbon. The major problem with food was, side garnish for main courses (which comes with every order). It was spinach mousse, mashed potatoes and potato chips. They were all bland. For me it was not really a problem, because I could dip it in my rich wild boar sauce but for my partner it ended up as being a very boring experience. Their dessert (Crème Brûlée) was also underwhelming, even though the waiter did a great job, caramelizing the sugar in front of us, whith a torch!

I’ll address a few (obvious) hot topics. 1) they do have apps at the table when you sit down. They’re “chef recommended”. Our waiter didn’t tell us they’re optional, but I heard a waiter tell another table they were. Simply put the ones you don’t want at the edge of the table and say “we don’t need these”. It is silly for people to think that it’d just be free, but it understand how it could be frustrating if you didn’t read reviews and know first. 2) We knew what we wanted, had a fado show to get to and were able to get in and out in one hour (felt bad; but was on a time crunch) 3) the waiter actually will tell you if you’re ordering too much as I tried to do. The fish soup (delicious) makes 3 bowls of soup, so depending how hungry you are you might not need another plate. The taste is amazing. The place is classy. I recommend it. We got rid of the cheese and octopus starters and had the fish soup. It was 83€.

As most other reviewers point out, the main thing to know before going here is to not accept the random starters they put on the table without asking you nor telling you how much they are (spoiler: each of the plates with a few slices of ham is 20€). Too bad, because this feels like a cheap trick to squeeze more money out of tourists, who would probably otherwise really enjoy the experience. That said, the food was one of the best I tried in Portugal so far, especially the fish soup and the octopus. Ambiance was nice, not too loud and with enough space between tables and traditional decorations on the walls. Service was excellent too, all the waiters were really nice and attentive. If and when I visit them again in the future and they stop doing the cheap trick with the starters, this will easily be at least a 4 stars review.
