Went here end of June as a treat with my sibling after seeing the reviews and menu online. We reserved a few days in advance - definitely a requirement!
The pros: Amazing atmosphere, great decor and furniture - good place to dress up and enjoy the atmosphere. Good selection of modern seafood dishes. Good wine card.
Cons: Different menu than expected, be prepared, as it changes often. We asked the female server for a recommendation on how many dishes to order, and were recommended 4 small plates to share for 2 people, which we quickly discovered was way too little - price in relation to portion size is very high in my opinion. Some plates genuinely had two bites on them and very little substance - I say this as a petite person. After receiving the 4 plates back to back we then ordered the seafood roll as desperate attempt to get full. It didn't arrive for over 25 minutes. When we politely asked about it the second time (different servers), the female server asked us "are you sure you haven't eaten it" and asked us to describe us what the dish is and looks like (!?). She said she needs to make sure so she doesn't get in trouble with her boss. At some point the table next to us stepped in to say that they can confirm we only got served in the beginning and didn't receive other dishes. Eventually it turned out that the seafood roll was still in the kitchen, and had been there for the past 25 minutes and forgotten. We were then asked if we still want it, which we declined, but weren't offered a fresh one. Generally, the servers attitude was more confrontational than apologetic and service oriented. After some back and forth we were then offered port but in my opinion something should have been taken off the bill, or the dessert (which we then ordered and shared) should have been offered to make up for it. Overall, this should not happen in an upscale restaurant with the price tag to show for it - we definitely should NOT be interrogated if we indeed did not receive a plate. Ordered with one person and served by multiple people, which led to confusion (see above). I left feeling let down after seeing the reviews and having high expectations for the food - perhaps the experience depends on the type of menu currently on offer, or what you order, but we left hungry and...
Read moreAs the sun began to set over the charming city of Lisbon, my wife and I found ourselves at the doorstep of Rosamar, a restaurant whispered about in hushed, reverent tones among food lovers. Nestled in a cozy corner of the city, Rosamar promised an evening of culinary delight, and it did not disappoint.
Walking into Rosamar was like stepping into a haven of tranquility. The ambiance was an inviting blend of modern elegance and relaxed comfort, setting the perfect stage for the culinary journey ahead. We were warmly greeted by the staff, whose knowledge and passion for their craft were immediately evident.
Our gastronomic adventure began with the classic oyster, a delicate introduction to the flavors of the sea. Next came the seafood ceviche, an exquisite dish that transported me straight to the Caribbean with its fresh, vibrant, and zesty flavors. It was an umami explosion, a gastronomic masterpiece that left me in awe—a true culinary orgasm.
We continued with the soft shell crab, crispy and tender, a harmonious blend of textures and tastes. The tuna followed, each bite a testament to the chef’s skill and dedication. Then came the clams with coconut sauce, an unexpected yet delightful fusion of briny and creamy flavors that danced on the palate.
As the evening progressed, the attentive and knowledgeable staff guided us through the meal, each dish paired with the perfect wine and cocktails, enhancing the experience further. Their expertise and genuine enthusiasm added a personal touch, making the dinner even more special.
Finally, the dessert arrived: Maisie corn ice cream with lemon curd, topped with a dust of Maisie corn and crumble. It was a symphony of sweetness and tang, a delightful end to an unforgettable meal.
Rosamar is not just a restaurant; it is an experience, a place where every dish tells a story, and every moment is savored. Our dinner there was a harmonious blend of flavors, ambiance, and impeccable service, making it a night to remember in the...
Read moreI have been in Lisbon for five years during which the restaurant scene has developed significantly. Whilst there are many new places, my experience at Rosamar last night set the bar the highest I've seen in the city - from the most authentic Tasca to the most extravagant Michelin starred eatery.
I had booked a table for eight, including some new visitors to the city from London. We arrived at 1900, at which time natural light was still pouring into the space, and so had the pleasure of watching the atmosphere built to a bustling crescendo by the time we finally left around 2200.
The service was first class, the drinks were original and most of all the food exceeded all expectations, The menu is curated with an incredible care and attention that mixes a respect for the local culture of the sea with the very best of international cuisine. There is real effort in the cooking giving the feeling of a true desire to delight the diner.
All the dishes that we sampled were outstanding but if I had to pick stand-outs I would go with the Coconut Oysters (a twist which compelled the most stubborn Oyster loather on the table to superlatives), the Banana Fish (a delightfully inventive taste sensation) and the Shellfish Pasta (the texture and composition beat any variation of this dish I've tried). The NatCool chilled red is a well-priced and perfect match to much of the food.
All in all expectations were high and Rosamar delivered in excess of them on all fronts. This restaurant doesn't have to be this good but it is at an affordable budget. It is entirely evident that the whole team is onboard with the project and they all deserve the...
