Unpleasant Management Experience During our trip to Lisbon, we dined at this restaurant twice. The food was satisfactory, but our second visit was marred by an unpleasant experience that ensured we would never return.
My wife and I ordered Carne Asada tacos on corn tortillas. When our meal arrived, there was a half cob of corn on each plate. Assuming it was part of the dish, we didn't question it. However, when the bill came, we were shocked to see a charge of $8 per corn, totaling $16. Additionally, a random $4 tip was added to the bill.
We called over the waitress and explained that we had not ordered the corn and asked for it to be removed from the bill. She insisted we had ordered "with corn" and must pay for it since we had eaten it. Despite her limited English, it was clear she understood the distinction between corn tortillas and corn on the cob.
Unsatisfied, I asked to speak to the manager. The manager echoed the waitress's stance: "You ate the corn, so you have to pay for the corn." I reiterated that we had not ordered the corn. Her response was frustratingly repetitive. I pointed out the absurdity of their practice, suggesting that they could add any item to the plate and then charge for it, forcing customers to scrutinize their meals and reject anything unrecognized.
When I mentioned the adage "the customer is always right," the manager gave us two choices: she could either call the police or remove the charge from the bill. I encouraged her to call the police over what amounted to a $16 scam, but suggested she do the right thing instead. Reluctantly, she removed the corn charges and the added tip, though she was visibly annoyed.
This incident taught us two valuable lessons. First, we will never dine at this restaurant again. Second, we will be vigilant about any unordered items on our plates in the future. Charging $16 for a single cob of corn is outrageous and feels like a deliberate scam. We didn't order the corn, we ate it, and after a dispute, we didn't have to pay for it. However, the unpleasantness of the experience left a sour taste...
Read moreOk so listen to me. Coyo Taco in Lisbon. LISBON. Who knew the Portuguese were hiding such a sexy little taco spot right in the middle of Europe? I thought I came here for pasteis de nata, but apparently I came for burrito bowls and emotional flavor trauma.
I went twice. Not because I’m dramatic (which I totally am), but because it was that good.
First time, I had the burrito bowl with pollo al cabrón. And let me tell you, that chicken was spicy, smoky, and probably had a criminal record. I took one bite and my tongue screamed, but my soul said gracias.
Second time, I went for carne asada because I like to live dangerously and also because my husband had it the first time and looked way too happy. The carne was juicy, tender, and grilled like it came from a five-star cowboy. It gave me a look. I blushed. We are now emotionally entangled.
My husband? Both times? Burrito with carne asada. The man is in a committed relationship with that meat. I just try not to be jealous.
Of course we had guacamole. Because we are not animals. It was creamy and chunky in all the right ways and made me feel like a responsible adult eating something green.
But listen to me now. The green hot sauce. The green one. I don’t know what they put in it. Witchcraft? Liquid jalapeño magic? Either way, it set my mouth on fire and I loved every second. I would put that sauce on everything. Eggs. Toast. A wedding ring.
So yes. Go to Coyo Taco. Order everything. Twice. Pour the green sauce like you’re living your best telenovela life. And if the carne asada flirts with you, flirt back.
Besos picantes, mi...
Read moreOkay food, but Very poor service. I was dining here with my mom and grandpa and had to flag someone down constantly to take our order for drinks, food, and to get utensils. Normally, i would understand if the restaurant was busy. However, we were the only people in the restaurant. It almost felt like they were going out of their way to ignore us. They didn’t check on us at all!!! At one point, we had to wait ten minutes to get some napkins (which my grandfather really needed), so I went up and grabbed them myself. Of course, that was the only time our server, Mariana, checked on us of her own accord and it was to scold me for grabbing the napkins myself. Soon after, customers started flowing in and the pace of service quickened. She became a lot more attentive, constantly checking on everyone but us. I’m not sure if race played a role, but we were the only asian individuals in this establishment. It wasn’t just Mariana that was the problem, but the other server who helped us as well. Every time we had to flag them down, they both had miserable looks on their face as if we were interrupting/inconveniencing them. I work in customer service, so I can recognize when the treatment I’m receiving is abysmal. We definitely won’t be dining here again, we did not feel...
