We've been going to the cheeky pub for the past few years, sometimes we had a lovely dinner, sometimes just a drink, but this year. !!?
We missed the warm Irish hospitality, either last year's owner sold the place, or he just wasn't there. Any way, it was all very commercial and sloppy, the food lacked the quality of last year.
The worst experience was the treatment of special wishes. I ordered half a portion of the curry with prawns. because I am on a medication that often leaves me without enough hunger for a full amount.
The waiter (who was friendly and tried, but obviously had nothing to say himself) asked and was send to our table with the message "not possible". I explained my medical condition (why do I have to do that in a restaurant), and the waiter went, asked, and came back with the message "not possible". We tried again and at last I got half a Portion. But on the bill, we were charged the full amount. It is remarkably simple to split a portion of curry with a portion of rice in half, it is not a well-prepared piece of meat an entrecote or. an expensive fish.
After three tries with an unnecessary and a little bit humiliating medical explanation to split it but charge the full amount shows too clearly that the customer is not important but only the revenue per customer.
The quality of food has deteriorated extremely. The Curry just tasted of cheap curry powder, incredibly old and stale, the cauliflower soup missed any trace of cauliflower, and the lemon rice had no salt, and the lemon taste was supposed to come out of a Lemon zest that was old dry and without taste. Something to chew on it
We will miss the old cheeky pub very much, but this place we will not visit again.

Read moreCheeky pup more like cheeky staff. The food redeemed a star but owner was extremely rude. Upon arrival we was waiting at the bar to order drink for about 10 minutes. When they eventually looked at us it was an abrupt “what do you want” being English we didn’t want to confuse the man as we are northern and sometimes our accents can be a bit confusing so we just asked for a Heineken and coke. He looked us up and down and replied “please thank you ?” And rolled his eyes to which we was shocked as he acted like he hadn’t heard us was a very confusing situation we are well mannered people and would of happily said thank you if we known he had heard us just didn’t give any indication he had. Staff very rude act like they don’t want you to be there very strange place if you ask me must of been having a bad day but you think working at a bar they would have better...
Read moreWe spent an evening in The Cheeky Pup while visiting Quinta do Lago as we were keen to enjoy some live music after dinner.
I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I had the Bang Bang chicken followed by the Black Pork Loin and both dishes were lovely although quite sweet/rich so I probably wouldn’t order them together again.
After dinner we moved inside to get closer to the band. There was plenty of space to move and we found a spot at the bar. I had 2 amaretto sours which were excellent, my partner had a espresso martini.
The only negative I can give The Cheeky Pup is for some of its customers who are wealthy, impatient & rude to the staff. This is in no way a reflection on the service from my point of view. I thought...
