Even 1 star is too high for this place. Absolutely the worst dining experience of our entire trip to Portugal. DO NOT EAT HERE. Everything people have already said is true. Service is terrible. We got dumped a plate of bread and some spreads without asking , only to find out later they charged us €12 euro for it. We were hurried to place our order before even getting a wine menu or even bringing us water. When the food finally came, I had no cutlery and it took forever to flag someone to get it. The staff were rude, curt, and completely uninterested in us. When I had to send back one of the dishes (because it was so bad) and ordered something else to replace it, the manager tried to still make us pay for it and threatened to call the police when we refused. To be clear, we were kind, calm, and polite the entire time and weren’t making a scene or disputing the whole bill - just the dish that had to be sent back. He eventually did take it off, but the bullying tactic he tried to pull on us was unacceptable. Food - Michelin should be ashamed to put their name to this place. The dish I had to send back was the lobster and octopus roll. I’m from Canada - I know what a good lobster roll is, and what I got was two dry, stale hotdog buns soaked in chipotle mayo with cold pieces of lobster and octopus. It was disgusting. I took one bite and that was all I could muster. The rest of the food was edible, but mediocre at best. Certainly not good, and far from anything Michelin should support. Atmosphere- someone commented earlier the place was like a general family restaurant and that’s spot on. It was loud, crowded, and felt more like an East Side Mario’s than a Michelin-starred seafood restaurant. Bottom line - you can get better food, better service, and a better experience eating street food on a park bench than this place. Dont waste your money. Don’t waste your time. Do not eat here. I plan to reach out to the folks at...
Read moreHello world. I hope you’re well :)
My name is Nick. I came here with 8 friends. We were celebrating friendship and the end of a great holiday. Perhaps we were lured by the siren song of the Michelin Star. I am easily lured, like a sardine to a candil.
I must say, speaking for the food, that the vast majority of dishes were very very nice. Octopus: amazing, soft, succulent. Sardines: grilled to perfection. Seafood rice: filled with deep sea treasures and such umami bisque. But whatever you do, don’t get the steak. For the love of god do not get the steak. Please take my word for it. Please trust me. I know, steak, may have been a bad choice. When we complained that the steak was an awful cut of meat, cooked to death, and drowned in an awful sauce, the waiter pointed out that steak was probably not a good choice at a seafood restaurant. I now wholeheartedly agree. But surely it shouldn’t be on the menu! Am I wrong? Could this menu item purely exist to weed out unsophisticated patrons such as I? A test? I think not.
Now, moving onto the service. 5 nights in Nazaré and 5 incredible meals served by 5 incredible hosts with 8 incredible friends. I wish the same could be said about this meal. The staff were disinterested in us which greatly bruised my inflated ego. How dare they!
Atmosphere: 3 stars for no offensive odour but no above average vibe.
In summary, I would avoid this place. There are so many other amazing restaurants in the area that are much more deserving of your hard-earned euros. If I was the Michelin Man I would remove their star.
Blessings and happy evening to...
Read moreThe service and atmosphere are very good. The employees were all excellent and helpful. We were able to arrive at opening and be seated without a reservation. Their tables were full about an hour later.
The food is well done, we ordered the arroz de marisco and water. This amounted to €60. The portions were quite large for 2 people. We can eat a lot, and we only made it through half. Half the portion and half the price would be better for 2 people. Other restaurants nearby also offer large portions of the same dish name, but theirs are a bit smaller. I only hope the leftovers go to feed local animals.
Sadly, we were too full to be able to try any other items. They don't offer take-out.
The atmosphere was lovely.
As for the reviews complaining about being offered bread and charged later, please watch a video or read an article on the customs of a country before visiting. Nearly every one will mention that the bread offered at the beginning of meals in Portugal costs extra. Water is for a fee as well. It's not a scam, it's completely normal here. You are welcome to ask about prices and...
