Ok so this restaurant has amazing views of the ocean if you choose to sit on the upstairs balcony and there is no doubt that their fish is fresh and of a good quality. The challenge is that their chefs are not very good. Actually they are downright awful and the word chef does not apply to them. Tuna Pate ordered as an appetizer but they had “not made any today”. Hmm ok, these things happen. A bit disappointed but that’s life. Ordered steak in peppercorn sauce as a main. Oh dear. The steak tasted of old boots ( not that I have ever eaten any old boots to be fair so I may be saying something unfair about old boots and their tenderness to chew on ). And I have never seen any peppercorn sauce like this before. Ever. I would call it cream ( and it was white and tasted of cream) with a few whole peppercorns thrown in. Basically leather boot in a tasteless cream sauce with the odd crunch from the odd thrown in after cooking ( heating) the cream up peppercorn. Steak may even have been microwaved. It was certainly poor enough quality to have been. Side salad ordered. Because you cannot go wrong with a few lettuce leaves and the odd slice of tomato- right? Wrong - all you need to do is ensure your ingredients are not fresh. Side dish of rustic Portuguese potatoes offered. Umm- rustic obviously mean’s five boiled potatoes thrown in a bowl of olive oil which they appeared to be learning breaststroke in. Yummy. Not. Overall the best word to describe the food is pitiful. Waited about 15 minutes for the bill after asking for it and then went downstairs in the end. Delay was because the owner was busy eating his own dinner. Chefs and wait staff not allowed to touch the till. Obviously- why not add further constraints to your business.
So all in all- good ingredients cooked badly by non chefs, but in a nice environment. Defeat grasped from the jaws of victory.
If tasteless poor quality food is what you hanker for then this is the place for you. Otherwise - I don’t recommend it at all. Stay at home, save your money, and cook blindfolded in your own kitchen with both hands tied behind your back- results will be the same but at...
Read moreI would avoid Peniche - very touristy and waste of time. Other amazing smaller surf-beach villages close by. Had horrible experience at a Abrigo do pescador- service horribly long (didn’t know what they were doing) - waited 20 minutes for cutlery and an additional 10 minutes to order. Waited 1 hour for food (boiled shrimp and boiled clams). Total time 2 hours . They charged 103 Euro As we waited we said we now had to leave we waited too long. We were hungry - but had to leave to get to Lisbon. The waiter threatened to call police. Poor service - and poor hospitality - and didn’t care about our time. Tourist be aware - not the experience you want to have on vacation. I would give this restaurant less...
Read moreHi, we were greated by a pleasant manager. Seated upstairs with a light sea breeze and view out to sea. Waiter was also well trained, english speaking which helped. We were a family of four. Ordered lamb, beef rib, sardines and swordfish. Big dishes, probably didn't need the extras. Arrived in expected time for a Wednesday afternoon. No complaints at all. Cooked well and all enjoyed. Could do with half portions for kids. House wine was ok. Spent £93 Euros. Little up on what we normally spend, but we were in a key position. Didn't bother me. Think the current 3.4 score is a bit harsh. Everyone around me seemed happy and there was a variety of dishes. If you need to pick a place, choose this and...
