Casa Marisca — Restaurant in Ponta Delgada

We went here for dinner while vacationing. It was so good we went back again for dinner and lunch. This is the type of place patronized by the locals and tourists and you really should have reservations as it was always packed full. The seafood is the specialty and the assortment is incredible, fresh and cooked with authenticity. The service we got from Milton and Rickard (SP?) was impeccable, friendly and if you have questions about different types of fish they readily can give you all the info you need. While you are here, try a bottle of vinho verde instead of the usual red or white wine. It is a great accompaniment to your seafood. Worth mentioning they are open for lunch, close down for a few hours and then reopen for supper. Without a doubt the worst dining experience I have ever had. We started with a 40 minute wait to be served our starter, stone cold shrimp for €10 a pop and as an added bonus they weren’t even deveined. Looking around we noticed other tables had yet to be served after an hour of waiting. The owner was clearly very concerned and showed this by scrolling through facebook on his phone for the next 15 minutes, what service! We hoped that our mains would make up for this poor start, they did not. The menu advertised a sharing platter but it turns out we had paid €50 for a fish stew, I could count the pieces of fish in this stew on one hand. All in all we spent 2 hours in this restaurant to be robbed of €135, our own fault for not leaving...

Very disappointed… had a lunch today , ordered a full plate of mixed fishes (to share by two) following the advice of the waiter .. the plate looked quite good with different vegetables on another plate .. but two of the 5 fishes smelled obviously bad , with this very recognizable ammonia smell .. despite the cooking ! We ate the good fishes and put aside the expired fish … we informed the waiter at the end of the meal when he asked about our appreciation….
