It was a super hot and muggy afternoon and it was overly uncomfortably hot in there! We couldn't wait to get up. A/C was off since the door was open. The restaurant had 4 (6 people) tables and my friend and I were seated with a family at one table. Wednesday is their busiest day because that is the day you can get octopus (stewed with potatoes). But if you don't order at least the day before your octopus you will not be able to get it on that Wednesday! So order ahead if this is what you want. They are technically not a restaurant but a beer house so they only serve food in the afternoon and not evenings.

Do try their special drink of local wine with orange pop - not to be missed. Its like a strong Sangria.

We had the stewed octopus. It was good but very salty like many other fish dishes I found on the island. Therefore 4 stars instead of 5. They are known for their very fresh grilled large sardines. If I go again, that's what...

My taxi from the airport said in the whole city, this was the place to go for authentic Azorean food like he was at home. He told me to come early, as it gets lots of business, which I did accidentally 15 minutes early. They did not fuss and let me wait inside until opening. There was bread and cheese for an appetizer. I got the fried horse mackerel, which I saw delivered being there early, which were fried whole. Lemon, roasted peppers, and onions pickled in balsamic were supplied to garnish. There was also boiled potatoes and a kind of bean salad. It was all absolutely delicious and...

Definitely a place to check out. It was pretty full when we arrived (off season), and we ended up sharing a table once the wait staff signaled we could come in. We were pointed out the only 3 items they were serving that day, so we decided on the beef and potato stew with fried mackerel. We were brought a cheese course too. The pickled onion and peppers really are special (come with the meals). It's clearly a favorite among locals, and that was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for a wonderful meal. I'm now attempting to recreate the beef stew with potatoes at home based on...

Very small place and very popular with locals, so you know it's good. Very cheap (mostly 6 EUR per dish) filling, good tasting fresh food with a similar atmosphere to an english cafe/chip shop. The menu is very simple with a dish of the day, and food very filling and the staff very welcoming. A little tricky trying to find the place, but it serves food from 12:00 - 15:00. Shame I found this place so late on my holiday as I wanted to try the whole menu. The food in the picture is the fried sardines menu, and it was absolute heaven.

Good and tasty food. One portion of fried mackerel was enough for two, not soo hungry people. Comes with potatoes - and we thought with some potato bean mash. It does not. It is extra and not so tasty. You can skip it. Waitress does not speak or does not want to speak English so you are going based on fingers crossed. She added a tip in our verbal only bill but is ok cz the mackerel was nice. Nothing else in the menu looked appealing to us as travelers, or value for money.
