We found Cantinho Português on our last day in town… Honestly, we’re kicking ourselves. If we’d discovered it sooner, we’d have eaten there every single night. It was that good!! Not to mention reasonable priced especially for the portions!!

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the kind of place that instantly makes you feel at home, even as tourists from the UK who had never tried authentic Portuguese cuisine. The menu felt like a treasure map, and every dish was a hidden gem.

Let’s talk about the food. The sea bass? Unreal. The skin was crisped to perfection, and the meat inside was tender, flaky, and full of rich, buttery flavour…absolutely mouth-watering! The oysters tasted like the ocean in the best possible way: fresh, clean, and bursting with briny goodness.

And my friend’s prawn skewer? To die for. Juicy, smoky, perfectly grilled! each bite packed with bold, garlicky flavour and kissed by fire. I nearly stole it off their plate (and I probably would’ve if I wasn’t already in love with my own dish).

The staff were incredible; attentive, warm, and clearly passionate about the food. They guided us through the menu with so much heart, and made the whole experience feel like a gift.

Seriously, stop reading this. Just go. Go now. Go hungry. And treat yourself to the meal we’re still dreaming about. You’ll only regret not...

Our experience at Portuguese Kitchen in Praia da Rocha was deeply disappointing and warrants a serious rethink from the management. The piri piri chicken I ordered was poorly prepared, served with the ribcage and littered with shattered bone fragments that ended up in my teeth—an unacceptable oversight that suggests a lack of proper butchery skills in the kitchen. This made the dish not only unpleasant but potentially hazardous. To make matters worse, my girlfriend was served the wrong steak. After eating some of the fries, the staff whisked her plate away without apology and shockingly delivered it to another customer’s table. We were left agasp, horrified that someone else received her partially eaten dish. I jokingly told her, “At least pretend to go back to the kitchen!” but the situation was far from amusing. The service felt chaotic, with no attempt to rectify the mistake properly or ensure our comfort. While the ambiance was decent, these serious missteps in food preparation and service overshadowed any positives. We won’t be returning and strongly advise others to approach with caution.
