From the street this is an easily missed, must visit restaurant, if you're looking for a great Indian meal.
From the beginning, the staff were friendly and welcoming. This continued throughout our visit.
I recommend booking a table on the roof terrace - on a warm evening, sitting inside downstairs may be a little uncomfortable. The roof terrace though is open yet sheltered, there is no view to be had but you'll feel the gentle breeze.
Menus are in Portuguese and English with many dishes to choose from. They're are there usually offerings you'll be familiar with in most Indian restaurants. There's are a selection of alcoholic drinks and soft drinks, as well as a few Indian named drinks but I didn't know what they were. Prices are reasonable too unless you insist on drinking Cobra beer, just because you're in an Indian restaurant (twice the price).
This was our 13 year old daughters first Indian restaurant experience and she loved it. She's vegetarian and there was was something for everyone.
The food is probably the best I've had in an Indian restaurant. I'm not a regular visitor to Indian restaurants but I've had enough to 'know my way around'.
Portion sizes are about right. Hot food is served with warm plates and brought to the table in metal bowls over a candle heated base, so each dish can sit at a customers place setting and they can take what they need. Not unlike what you normally have but without the longer heated bases with 3 or 4 plates crammed on top in restricted space.
Overall, this place is highly recommended for an Indian - great staff and great food. You...
Read moreAvoid avoid. Where do I start, had been to the Indian Garden in 2019 and loved the place so returned this time with the family. I ordered Lamb Tikka, I was started on the sauce with naan, and thought the sauce had a strange taste. It was only when I bit into a piece of the lamb that i realises it was off. And I don't mean slightly, I'm talking full on rancid, bordering on decomposing. The shocking bit was the reaction of the serving staff, they offered me something else, of course after having that in my mouth, I didnt feel much like eating, so they began clearing the table, presumably to get rid of us. When the bill arrived, they only took the lamb off the price, despite everyone else at the table not finishing their food either. They even had the neck to bill me for the naan and rice, and never once made any attempt to apologise. I appreciate that things happen in restaurants, especially in hot climates, but this was beyond acceptable, it was so far gone off, my guess is it was left sitting out in the heat for some time. Two others in the party had a chicken dish and were sick for two days after it, though I didn't physically throw up, I've not been able to eat properly and have only started to feel right days later. I feel bad as I recommended the place to them. To sum up, I'm tempted to report them to the health inspectors, serving rotting meat to customers is just not acceptable, but if you are reading this, take my advice and avoid this place like the plague. They have a lot of one off positive reviews that look like bots, so...
Read moreVery odd experience.
Quite welcoming and was looking forward to it. It then took a nasty and rather disgusting turn.
As a group we ordered quite a large amount of food. We waited for a while but longer than expected, as there was only one other person in front of us.
What we did not expect was to be sharing the same chutney that the person had just finished eating from. Yes.... Instead of preparing a new chutney the waiter decided to give use the leftovers from the previous customer.
Luckily we were watching this all unfold in front of us and made a sharp exit but not before making sure our disgust was aired.
This should not be happening at any time but especially not during the current crisis we are facing with covid.
We will not be returning back to this restaurant and adivise you avoid at all costs. There are many other restaurants available in Alvor that adhere to basic hygiene standards.
Also avoid the Namaste restaurant close to the main strip, as this is part of the same...
