Yama sushi bar alvor — Restaurant in Portimão

If I hadn't ordered the mixed sashimi plate, I wouldn't have rated this as high.

The rolls were not great, average at best. The "spicy tuna" was not spicy at all. It was just a tiny squirt of off-brand sriracha on each roll. Was more like ketchup than hot sauce. I don't know why I always expect spicy mayo here in Portugal when I have never seen it at any Japanese restaurant. (Only --randomly-- a seafood restaurant.)

The California roll was shrimp, not (imitation) crab like it should be.

So, if it had been based on that, not good. There isn't a huge variety of offerings, which is fairly typical for Japanese restaurants in the Algarve.

However, eventually our mixed sashimi platter came. IT HAD EEL!!! The elation I felt finally seeing something other than salmon was unmatched so far in Portugal lol. You don't get much eel, but at least it's something! It also had shrimp and a whitefish, slightly seared, which was tasty. Total bonus points for actually having some diversity in the platter AND doing their best to make it look pretty as well. A lot of attention went into it and I appreciate that very much.

The tuna was impeccable. Beautifully smooth. Best I've had here, and honestly, better than most tuna sashimi I've had elsewhere as well, including expensive sushi places.

Very tempted to try the hot banana dessert...

We just use the restaurant for the Valentine's day....we book table and the food in advance....and to our surprise the food was freshly made but waiting time was better not mentine...We waited over half an our to recive the starter....I won't mention that table who came after us was served first!!!! The main come in the reasonable time after a starter...however we didn't have opportunity to try dessert as we were waiting over an hour for it ...and of course other tables who came much later was served before us....so we eventually gave up after 1h and 20 min waiting and just left the place....I have to say that the food was amazing and fresh but overall management and service destroyed all the experience....especially on that...
