We ordered the iconic dish of this place and of Porto – the Francesinha – and some drinks. Of course, the Francesinha came with homemade fries. The owner cuts them herself in the kitchen – no frozen stuff. The food was top notch and tasted amazing. Portions were huge, honestly way too big to finish, we had to leave some behind.
Prices were very low considering the taste and the fact that everything is made with local products and by hand. The service was excellent – super friendly and fun. We had a good laugh, got some great recommendations, and heard a bit about the place and how they prepare the food.
The place itself was really nicely decorated – pretty small but smartly arranged and spacious enough. There’s even a bookshelf and quite a few tables fit in comfortably.
Now, the only downside was the waiting time – but we came right at opening, so it makes sense that they had to get things heated up and ready. It didn’t bother us at all, we just chatted with the staff and among ourselves while waiting. Since we were there at opening, there were lots of free tables and no line.
I definitely recommend this spot to anyone who wants to try an amazing Francesinha and support a local family-run business. The fries honestly tasted like the ones you’d get at home as a kid. I’ll be coming back for sure next time...
Read moreSmall family run restaurant. Owners very friendly. Food is typical Portuguese, we had francesinha, alheira grelhada which is grilled chicken meat sausage and bacalhau a braga which is cod fish, grilled. The prices are quite low, the portions very big. It is a food you want when you need to work hard all day. For me, cod fish was not interesting taste, just a big chunk of a fried fish. Francesinha probably fine, was my first try, very heavy dish, I would not opt for it again though. Unfortunately french fries came cold, they were quickly replaced upon request, but still, whoever made this sin in the kitchen, I mean how can you serve a customer cold fries? Especially when we were first people in. It shows that someone in the kitchen didn't care. Only service was perfect. Maybe kitchen and food works different based on who is working, as later that evening, there was another cook. House wine was very good, for only 2 euros. I am sad to rate only 3 stars but when compared with other places where we ate in Portugal, the food itself was average, even the basket bread was average compared with other places. Place is nice, staff is nice. Prices are low. Maybe we were just unlucky with the cook or the dishes are not...
Read moreWe were three young adults tourists from Italy looking for a place to have lunch with local quality food, something that a Portuguese himself would eat. The place is not particularly noticeable from the outside but is easily reachable either with the bus or a taxi/Uber. The inside gave us the vibes of a typical "trattoria" that you could find in Italy: cozy, warm and traditional. We started with some fish-based fried appetizers, which had amazing fish flavor and were crispy but not greazy. We then took 3 main dishes, the Francesinha (typical Portuguese toast), fried fish and the dish of the day (which was some typical meat with potatoes). Everything was both delicious and typical, the doses were almost too generous and the price was also very cheap for the quality and quantity. The staff was very friendly and professional and even offered us some typical Portuguese wine at the end of the lunch. Highly recommended for anyone looking for typical food at an...
