Nestled within the vibrant city of Porto, Portugal lies a secret oasis of serenity and natural splendor – the Jardim Botânico do Porto. This enchanting botanical garden, with its picturesque landscapes and diverse collection of exotic plant species, is a treasure trove for all who venture into its verdant embrace. As you meander through the garden's grounds, you'll encounter two alluring ponds, one adorned with mesmerizing lilies that captivate the senses. Additionally, three distinct gardens create a harmonious medley of floral beauty – the fragrant Rose Garden, the meticulously designed J Letter Garden, and the intriguing Fish Garden, each offering a unique and vibrant experience. King Miguel I of Portugal founded Jardim Botânico do Porto in 1833 to acclimate foreign plant species to the country's climate. Over the past two centuries, the garden has flourished beyond its original purpose, transforming into a sought-after tourist destination and a cherished retreat for locals. During your visit, ensure you explore the garden's three main attractions: the Rose Garden, brimming with fragrant blossoms; the J Letter Garden, characterized by its unique layout; and the Fish Garden, which introduces a fascinating aquatic touch to the surroundings. Each garden showcases a distinct variety of flora, offering an immersive and diverse experience. Beyond these gardens, Jardim Botânico do Porto boasts several greenhouses that shelter an extensive range of exotic plants from across the globe. Allocate ample time to delve into these lush sanctuaries and marvel at the myriad of unique species they house. Lastly, a stroll around the picturesque ponds on the property is essential to your visit. The lily pond, in particular, provides a striking visual spectacle that will leave you spellbound. Jardim Botânico do Porto is a hidden gem that beckons to be discovered. From its idyllic landscapes and charming greenhouses to its diverse and enchanting gardens, this remarkable destination offers many experiences for all who enter its gates. As you explore the myriad wonders of this Portuguese paradise, you'll quickly understand why it remains an enduring favorite among locals and...

Porto’s Botanical Garden is a space where three dimensions converge: recreation, history and botanics. It is not a very big garden but it is full of old town charm.

The house the property are now runned by the Faculty of Sciences (Porto University) but were formerly owned by the Christ Order and after that by João Salabert. Finally, it belonged to the Andresen family, who sold it to the State of Portugal in 1949.

The botanic gardens are representative of the so loved recreational gardens of the 18th century in Porto. The historic relevance of the complex is also related to the Andresen family. The house was acquired by João Henrique Andresen, a Port wine merchant, who requalified the gardens to give its romantic aspect. His daughter – Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen – became one of the most prominent portuguese writers of the 20th century and her work is full of the memories of her childhood in...

I never give a try to visit this park in a day light. It is a bit tricky to find a free parking there. You need to park a little bit far to park your car free. Since you need more than 15 minutes to explore the garden, we decide to find a free park not a paid park.

I went there last month for magic garden. The garden is quite big enough with its biodiversity concept. There many kinds of plant and environment offer by the garden.

It was so beautiful night on magical garden. It is good to visit the garden with family for relaxing. They have restaurant inside the property, but close at that night. The garden is accessible for wheelchair. It is good to see the sign clearly.

You must wear a mask...

Dedicated to the topics of evolution, biodiversity and nature the 'Galeria da Biodiversidade' is powered by interactivity, facial recognition and 360º projection. Among others you will see and experience a morphing video 'Wolf and Dog', an interactive terminal 'Diversity of scents', a display 'Genetic diversity of Snails', a chair where you can acoustically experience the difference between the heartbeat of a human, a whale and a mouse. Knowledge, presented in a creative and original way. Exciting and educational for teenagers, adults and even the youngest children.

Visually, the Porto University Botanical Garden is very pleasant - green, leafy and photogenic - and is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The only down side is the traffic noise from both the main road on one side and the busy motorway on the other side. Why no soundproofing has been installed, at least on the motorway side, seems a pity. The garden is within easy walking distance of the Kedoorie Mekor Haim Synagogue, the largest synagogue on the Iberian Peninsula, the Jewish Museum of Porto and the Holocaust Museum of Porto.
