Restaurante A Família — Restaurant in Ribeira Grande

Important: Get the all-you-can-eat buffet, don't order just one dish. The buffet is great value for money. The food is good and the sizes big. Sides like rice or noodles are not included in the main dish but come very cheap. The staff was extremely friendly and explained everything in excellent English.

Their concept is quite nice: if you get the buffet, you can order as many dishes as you want, but you have to finish one before another can be ordered. This way there is less waste.

Overpriced and misleading. I ordered fried tofu but what I got was not fried tofu, it was deep fried soy bean balls, it tasted a bit sour. The freshness of the food is doubtful. Apart from not being what I ordered it was overpriced for what it was, the same goes with the plane noodles. It was called vegetable noodles but there were only a few slivers of carrot, onion and egg. The menu card is not appealing, dirty and bad pictures. The food was simply a disaster. The other two had noodles that tasted like nothing and were lukewarm. I had beef. It was tough, lukewarm and the rice was a sticky mess. Service was okay but not overly friendly. We ordered spring roll as a starter - also lukewarm, not properly deep-fried and as sauce some kind of jar (indefinable) and soy sauce (instead of sweet and sour).
