Snack Bar Carlos Freire — Restaurant in Ribeira Grande

Carlos’ snack bar was absolutely phenomenal. We walked in and were treated like well-known customers immediately. The family who owned the restaurant was so kind and made us feel at home. Not to mention, the food was exquisite and fit within our budget. On another note, Portugal was playing in the UEFA Champions Finals and they let us watch the game with them, a remarkable experience. We were nine college buddies in town for our graduation trip. We stumbled upon Snack Bar Carlos Freire, where we were met with open arms and open hearts. Meeting Danny/Pedro and his family was so lovely. The food was phenomenal at low prices. They even let us stay long after the restaurant closed to watch Portugal soccer play in the UEFA Nations Semi-Final. We did a celebratory shot of rum on the house....

They didn’t have the fish in the menu, when I asked them it took 5 minutes to find a picture online and show me. When they brought the fish, it was tiny and not as shown in the picture that they showed me. They charged me €25 for that small dish a glass of red wine which is very high in comparison with the local Sao Miguel restaurants. If you are a visitor, don’t bother going there because they will...
