The service at Metrópole was top-notch, even during the lunch rush. The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient, ensuring that every guest felt welcomed and taken care of. Despite the busy atmosphere, the waitstaff went above and beyond to make sure our dining experience was flawless. The highlight of my lunch at Metrópole was the magnificent dish composed of five cuts of meat, accompanied by sides like rice and fries. This carnivorous delight showcased the chef's expertise in grilling and flavoring each cut to perfection. The meats were incredibly tender, succulent, and bursting with juicy flavors that made my taste buds dance with delight. Each cut of meat had its distinct character, adding variety and excitement to the meal. From the juicy and flavorful steak to the tender and aromatic lamb chops, every bite was a testament to the chef's culinary skill. The carefully chosen selection of cuts ensured a balance of textures and flavors, creating a harmonious symphony on the plate. Wonderful dinner! Made a dinner reservation for 3 - 700pm before the dinner rush and seated immediately inside in a nice corner. We started with three glasses of Moscatel, or Portuguese fortified wine made from muscat grapes….really tasty. Reminded me of a mix of brandy and muscat. Sweet but not too sweet. We definitely overdid the appetizers: - bread + couvert (seasoned butter, tuna pate, olive tapenade) - EXCELLENT, especially the tuna pate - A la guilho (shrimp flamed in whiskey) - very tasty! - Beef tartare (a big portion size, I would have liked the tartare ground into smaller pieces) - “Enchanted Forest” - mushrooms served on a bed of potato straws with an egg (with runny yolk) on top. Pretty good! Entrees - the server recommended New York strip, so we ordered 2, one medium rare and one medium well, both were flavorful with salt and sauce accompaniment - Cod fish was the third entree and it was very fresh, well prepared, very enjoyable. Dessert - Traditional Algarve dessert (cake of almond, fig, and carob) - with the texture of a pecan pie, dense, not too sweet but very good balance of flavor and texture, would recommend trying - Crème brûlée - I might skip this - the brûlée was not consistent - probably because the dish was not deep enough and it was sloped so some of the brûlée cooked to a different texture. Because we were celebrating 2 birthdays, they brought out a giant firecracker candle with the desserts and sang for us! All in all, an enjoyable meal, good service and decent prices for tourists here in the Algarve region.

The menu offered great options, and we opted for starters, grilled cod, and wild boar. Each dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the finest ingredients. The flavours were really well balanced! The desserts deserve a special mention. The local fig and carrot cake, along with the pavlova-styled house desserts, were simply outstanding. The combination of flavours, textures, and presentation was exceptional. Adding to the charm of our visit was the presence of the Head Chef, who took the time to visit every table and engage in friendly chats with the guests. This personal touch added a warm and welcoming ambiance to the already delightful atmosphere of the restaurant. Metropole has undoubtedly secured its place as the best restaurant I have experienced this year. Hopefully, we will be back shortly!
