Edit 2023-04-21: Still a great place but they changed up their menu and dropped a few of our favorite dishes. Gone is the Tiradito Miraflores and their amazing kofte. 😭 However they added a soft tortilla pork Taco to the menu that os pretty great. However other new additions are a bit of a miss... The surf and turf roll is ok but not worth a repeat, and the duck bao has way too much hoisin sauce for my taste. Sigh... wish I could get the recipe for those kofte so I could make them for myself! 😂
Edit 2022-12-22: We have been back to Barto so many times now I thought my review deserved an update. The quantity of their food has only gotten better and better since our first visits. Their tuna tacos are still amazing but items like the Tiradito Miraflores, Pork Gua Bao, the 5 piece Nigiri Experience (omg that mackerel nigri!) and, believe it or not, the Lamb Kofta (one of the best I have had anywhere) totally steal the show. Plus the staff are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet and always super accommodating and patient with our weird requests. As I type this, my mouth is watering and I can hardly wait for our next visit. ❤️
Really good menu and not too expensive. The tuna tacos are really amazing. The crunch gamba roll and Vietnamese spring roll are really nice too! The house sake is worth it but could be a little colder. The goyoza is the only thing we ate that needed improvement. Very fresh (as was everything we ate!) just a bit bland. We will...
Read moreMust try - but only once! There are a few sushi places in town, but we decided to try this one for the good reviews. I’m not sure I’d be able to get a full meal here, so we tried it as a starter or a prelude to our dinner (elsewhere). The experience and atmosphere are cool. The food - explosion of flavours. There are a few caveats though! First, you have to be OK with eating raw fish and roe. Then you have to be trusting that the food will be safely prepared. And finally, the combination of flavours will be as per the restaurant’s menu, i.e. if you order tuna or salmon, you’re getting a lot of other stuff that doesn’t necessarily go with what you wanted to savour in the first place. All that aside, the food was very well presented and extravagantly delicious. We weren’t allowed to order food without getting cocktails first, so there’s one star off. The other star went away when we saw our bill and were told that the card terminal wasn’t working. I’d understand this in a bistro, but for one of the most expensive restaurants in town, I would have thought they’d sort this out first. Overall, we were happy we had a proper dinner booked elsewhere...
Read moreCame here with a relatively large group (9 people), they were able to accommodate us and we sat outside on a beautiful October evening. Katya was our server for the evening and definitely made our experience at Barto 5 stars, she was the BEST and FUNNY! She was very friendly, asked us where we all were from, gave us some background on Tavira, and recommendations on the menu, and was very attentive. Food was delicious and fresh (one of the nigiri sets included caviar!), very reasonably priced, we all left full and only spent about $25 per person with several sake bottles. This would have easily been at least 3x as much in the states. Will return on my next visit to Tavira. 5 stars, highly recommend if you're in Tavira and...
