We visited the restaurant twice today – at lunch and in the afternoon. The location is excellent, the food tasted okay, so after a mixed first impression at lunch, we wanted to give it a second chance. It was quite busy at lunch. The staff seemed stressed and, unfortunately, quite unfriendly. It was noticeable that a neighboring table received significantly larger portions than us from the exact same menu – a detail that was puzzling. In the afternoon, when it was much quieter, we hoped for a more relaxed experience. Since we love the location and, as said, the food was ok we wanted to give it a second chance. Unfortunately, we were completely ignored for about 20 minutes. When someone finally arrived, the staff was again unfriendly. I ordered a snack but received a completely different dish. When I pointed it out, the waiter reacted irritably and explained that there were two dishes with the same name (?) – I should have "been more precise" when I ordered. There was no simple "I'm sorry" or any attempt at clarification. To avoid an awkward discussion, I let it go and ate the wrong dish. When paying, the change was smashed on the counter without a word. Conclusion: The location and the food could actually make the restaurant attractive. I assume there was a personal problem, because one of the tables next to us, which spoke Portuguese, was treated completely different. Don't know if it's an aversion towards tourists or whether we didn't suit them for some other reason. It's a shame, really, because the place has a lot...
Read moreFantastic spot for watching the world go by, close to the river bridge. I spent about 1.5 hours enjoying breakfast and people watching, there was a Q to get in so I was lucky to get a table, suggest you arrive early if you want breakfast as this place is full early on, I arrived about 10 and slipped into a table that had just been vacated. It’s clearly a very popular Cafe, service was a bit hit and Miss due to the number of tables v’s staff but I wasn’t in a hurry and enjoyed the wait, great views down the riverside . I would recommend this for a chilled experience not somewhere you would go if you are in a hurry, to pay I had to go inside, I did ask for the bill from the waitress but it never came. The prices are good (I included my bill in the photos) and so is the quality of the food I had. I feel a bit mean giving them a 4 but it’s just because of the service and to be fair they probably didn’t expect...
Read moreVisited for late lunch on a very busy Sunday in March (Saint Patrick's Day). The café is located in the old square just two minutes from the Roman Bridge. Lots of outside seating and great location to people-watch.
We had a tuna baguette that was big enough for two, and a really nice fresh mixed salad. The cappuccino and Aperol Spritz was good too!
Lots of really delicious-looking cakes on display inside, although we didn't sample any.
Prices for food and drink were reasonable too.
The café was busy with borh tourists and local people, which is always a good sign for me.
Definitely worth visiting if you...
