Restaurante Franganário — Restaurant in Tavira

We actually wanted to go to Zeca da Bica which appears to be closed on Wednesdays. We know Zeca da Bica and it's a very nice restaurant but today we're so happy it was closed as we discovered Franganario. If we had to recommend either one, it would probably be both but Franganario was such a discovery. Nice and tasteful local cuisine that you just can't ignore. I had the "barriga de atum" (tuna belly) and it was just delicious. I'm glad we skipped the "couvert" and just took the "queijo fresco" for starters. We had an evening meal here on 18th of May 2024. Having read the previous reviews we were really looking forward to a good meal. Unfortunatel, the whole experience was a massive disapointment. Front of house staff looked decidedly fed up, but she eventually took our order and stomped off. We ordered black pork chirizo to start and piri piri chicken to follow. We stumbled upon this restaurant on our first night in Tavira, and we were charmed by the delicious food and service. The service is super friendly and the food is amazing, all for a very moderate price (around 25 euros for two full meals and desserts) ! We loved it so much that we came back three times in the 6 days we were in Tavira. You should definitely try the black pork (simply astonishing!) and the chicken Piri-Piri.
