Gallo Grigio Pizzeria — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

As a Neapolitan unfortunately I have to downgrade this restaurant from 4 stars to 2 due to our most recent negative experience. Last year I ordered take away for the first time and I was very happy with the pizzas. The dough was lovely, thin and light with a nice crust and the ingredients were good. The Margherita was great but the pizza parmigiana was disappointing. The eggplant was cut in small cubes which hadn't been cooked properly and didn't add any flavour or taste to the pizza, definitely not worth the extra cost.

The second time i ordered from Gallo Grigio through Uber eats (last year) our pizzas arrived very cold (in spite of us living quite close to the restaurant), but I thought we had just had back luck with he delivery service.

This time the pizzas were simply very dry. The Margherita had very little sauce and no olive oil on top. The carbonara was also very dry, the diavola was decent. All 3 pizzas had a chewy dough which looked very pale on the crust, visibly undercooked. Considering the very high price per pizza the value Vs quality ratio was pretty bad (in Naples a margherita costs 4€, gallo grigio sells it for 11€- happy to pay more because we're in Porto, but I expect it to be good). Let me be clear- DO NOT waste your money ( or time) here. On a weekend evening I wanted to eat Pizza ( or what some-people in V.N. de Gaia “think” is Pizza in the style of Naples, ITÁLIA) 😤 After waiting for 20+ minutes in a (short) line to place an order for 2 pizzas; while suffering from REALLY terrible electronica noise being generated by a talentless DJ- I was informed they were out of Pizza #13.🤷🏽‍♂️OK- I asked for 2 other Pizzas /Burnt or charred crust please.

Neither “Pizza” had any char Neither “Pizza” had any “Alma”- or soul. The Crust was chewy( not crispy) and the toppings were not hot. In Chicago- PIZZA -comes in many shapes, styles, and tastes. To say Chicagoans don’t know Pizza is like saying the French can’t play Football ( Soccer). 🙄 The food was so inedible I ate one slice and threw the rest in the garbage.

To serve a food claiming it’s “Authentic” “NAPOLENTANA PIZZA”- is farcical ( a fancy word for Fake News/- meaning- a Lie) Save your money and go across the street.

2 hours after ordering our pizza on UberEATS, we received cold pizzas. Having noticed that out pizzas were ice cold, without any signs of ever being crispy we thought to address this by calling Gallo Grigio. To our disappointment they were unconcerned whether or not they deliver cold/old pizza or freshly made hot pizza. They repeatedly pointed out that they had no intention to take back the cold pizzas and provide hot ones, as we did not have the facilities to properly heat them in our Airbnb. Stating it was not their concern.

While they owned the fact that they choose to deliver with UberEATS they do not take responsibility. Fully acknowledging that if their oven broke they would be fine delivering pizzas there were not cooked because it would not be their responsibility to provide a cooked one as long as they did the best they could in their attempt.

In short. A total lack of customer service where getting a good pizza is like buying a lottery ticket. Maybe your lucky maybe your not.

You should not buy anything here if you can't check it before you hand...
