HANOK RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Doha

Tried a new Korean restaurant, Hanok, behind the National Museum of Qatar. A small place with not that many nearby parking spaces.

They have a pretty big menu with authentic Korean dishes that I'll have to visit again to try more of their dishes. I got their Beef Bulgogi Set Meal which was very delicious and filling. It gave with a generous portion of tender beef pieces, a bit sweet and savory with glass noodles. They had a few side dishes included like steamed rice, chili oil, zucchini with eggs (super delicious and light!), kimchi (perfectly spicy and tangy), a potato and apple salad (first time trying something like this, very interesting and nice cool down from the spiciness), and some spicy cucumber salad (refreshing and tasty). They also served somesort of seaweed soup that I didn't like at all.

It took more than 30 minutes for me to get my food, a bit excessive but I'd say worth the wait for the delicious meal.

Ordered the Jjamppong, Jjajjangmyeon, and Pink Sauce Tteokbokki. Jjamppong - The mussels and shrimp were not cleaned well. The octopus not cooked through. Tasted watery and spicy. Noodles were fine. Jjajjangmyeon - ordered it because I thought it would be a better version of the samyang buldak jjajjang noodles, which I really like. Was totally disappointed. It tasted like alcohol and brown potato mush, with some beetroot? Noodles and egg were fine. Pink sauce tteokbokki - comparatively better than the other dishes. The "sauce" is more like a Pink sugary fish soup. The egg, wheat cakes and rice cakes were fine. Banchan - side dishes were okay. Didn't understand what that mound of red stuff was.

Overall, the food we had was not really good. The service and atmosphere was great. Would order something else if we get the...

The food has some korean touch but not very authentic. Especially because Bibimbap is not served in the hot stone pot but in a cold metal bowl….It also has far too much rice and not much toppings..

There is unfortunately no kimchi in the side dishes… and the staff doesn’t bring the side dishes while the guests wait… we asked for them but they didn’t do much about it..

The atmosphere was not good. The cooking smell is strong in the restaurant which goes to the hair and clothes, the staff is not attentive nor smiling… there were not so many guests but they said they are super busy, while some staff was keeping swiping the floor near the end of the room and occasionally serving the plates. It didn’t give a good feeling...
