My husband and I attended a cooking class at the Saffron restaurant, which was the highlight of our short trip to Doha.
The booking process was seamless and easy – Ye Mann, the assistant restaurant manager, was so helpful, accommodating our requested changes to the menu and last minute changes to the time. On the day he was so welcoming, providing us with suggestions of sites to visit in Doha and going above and beyond to offer any help or advice we might need during our stay.
The cooking class itself was fantastic. We have done a few cooking classes before, both at home in the UK and abroad, but this was by far and away the best we have attended.
Chef Porntip and Chef Suzie were both so lovely. They were so passionate about their cooking and so warm, friendly and enthusiastic.
The set up of the kitchen stations for the day was super, with everything provided for and prepared for us. Everything was clearly explained, with step by step instructions and demonstrations. The private nature of the class meant that the chefs could really provide us with 1 on 1 direction and attention, which made all the difference. The chefs also showed us all the specific brands of products that we used during the class and gave us recipe cards to take away with us, so we didn't forget anything.
Throughout the class a member of the team was taking photos and videos, which were all sent to us after the class, along with some lovely video and photo montages to help us remember the day, which was such a lovely touch.
All in all we had the best time and would thoroughly recommend the class. The food we made was delicious (even if we do say so ourselves!). We had such a lovely time with Chef Porntip and Chef Suzie, starting the class as strangers and finishing...
Read moreLast Tuesday, I enjoyed Saffron at the Banyan Tree Hotel's special Tuesday night street food set menu. The four-course meal began with the "Tum Thad," a generous Thai papaya salad tray featuring grilled chicken, fish balls, a boiled egg, sticky rice, and rice noodles. The high-quality ingredients and authentic flavors were excellent, especially when combined. The portion was quite large, making us feel full after just the first course. Next, we had the "Tom Sab Neua," a flavorful northeastern Thai spicy beef soup, similar to Tom Yum but with a distinct aroma of dried chilies and herbs. The tender, braised beef melted in my mouth, and the aromatic broth was comforting. The third course, "Kapraw Chicken with Rice and Fried Egg," was one of the best I've had. The fragrant stir-fried minced chicken with basil, served with Thai jasmine rice and a crispy Thai-style fried egg, was simply perfect. Finally, we enjoyed the traditional Thai shaved ice with condiments, a refreshing and fitting end to the street food-themed meal. Saffron consistently impresses me. The food was delicious, the Thai dance performance was fantastic, and we always have a wonderful time there. The four-course set menu is excellent value, and with the current "buy one, get one free" offer through Entertainer, Urban Point, and My Book, it's an even better deal at just QR 110 per person. The two-hour unlimited beverage package is also available for QR 150.
Special thanks for chef porntip and her team who always make our meal enjoyable time with her tasty food and thai...
Read moreLast Friday, I went to Saffron at the Banyan Tree Hotel for the Ramwong night event, which they hold every first Friday of the month.
During "Ramwong night," they offer a set menu for 165 per person, which includes two appetizers, one soup, two main courses, rice, and unlimited desserts.
The food had very authentic Thai flavors and was nicely presented. Chef Porntip and her team never disappoint me; all the courses were full of surprises, both beautiful and tasty. The food showcases Thai culture in the way it is presented and in the flavors of each dish.
All the dishes were fantastic. Som-tam kung pla-ra was my favorite! It guaranteed an authentic Thai taste, with the papaya being very crunchy, rich, and refreshing.
My daughter is in love with her authentic Thai fried rice, which had a nice aromatic wok smell; the rice was cooked perfectly fluffy, and the grains were fully covered with eggs. My husband enjoyed his chicken cashew nut and prawn wonton soup very much.
My guest was surprised by all the food, the Thai dance show, the restaurant's service, and the decoration. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with traditional Thai decor, and the warm, welcoming staffs, Thai dance show made me feel like I was in Thailand. The Thai service, full of smiles, makes me and my loved ones very happy.
Thank you to Chef Porntip and her team for creating such a magical night. Their culinary skills showcase the taste of Thailand, and most importantly, it’s a taste of happiness that impresses and...
