Kryp In Södermalm is an absolute must in Stockholm. If you are visiting, it will be the culinary jewel in the crown; if you are fortunate enough to live in Stockholm, you will become a regular. I received a warm and gracious welcome from Thomas, whose hospitality and generosity is just legendary. He went out of his way to ensure I was seated at a table where I would be comfortable, advise me on food and drink choices, and even share travel stories and give me recommendations on places to see in Stockholm and elsewhere. He explained the history of the restaurant and how it has evolved in the years he had been working there. Next, the food. It was indeed spectacular. I was served a basket of delicious, hot homemade bread and a special in-house butter that contained herbs and caviar. I started with a bowl of porcini soup (pictured), which was the best mushroom soup I had ever eaten anywhere. It was velvety smooth in consistency, just the right thickness/viscosity, and had a rich porcini umami that brought my senses alive. For the main course I ordered the seafood stew; there is good reason that the restaurant is known for this dish, because it is exquisite. The fish and seafood were fresh, sweet, and succulent, all served in a warm and earthy sauce of vegetables and spices. Thomas went out of his way to ensure that I had plenty of bread to mop up all of the sauce in the stew; trust me, you do not want a drop to go to waste! I also had a nice bottle of crisp Swedish cider to go with this all, perfectly light and refreshing to accompany the soup and seafood stew. As for atmosphere, the second I walked in I felt a good vibe. This is a small restaurant, but it does not feel cramped. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and lively without being noisy. The decor and lighting are spot-on. I was too full after this meal to order dessert, but the selections were great. I cannot...
Read moreWe had an amazing dinner at this restaurant. My partner mentioned it's his best food we had so far while visiting Stockholm and I agree.
For starters we had deep fried artichoke which was delicious. For main course I had the char fillet and my bf had the reindeer meat. The char fillet was amazing. It's served with smooth mashed potatoes which I normally don't like but amazingly I finished them all. I tried some of the reindeer meat and honestly we had reindeer meat in other restaurant and I must say the one we had at this restaurant was 1000% better. A must try!
They had grappa too! Which blended so well with the dessert!
The restaurant was tad small and modest but the interior and feel were excellent. We were being greeted and served by super friendly host/server. Apart from the food, we'd like to thank the host/server for providing such good customer exprience. We had a blast.
Tip: we went here in May and we booked the reservation at 8pm and we've finished by 9.30pm. The restaurant was just 10mins walking to the Skinnarviksberget — the highest natural point of Stockholm — to catch the sunset. It was amazing and you should definitely try to...
Read moreLovely Scandinavian restaurant in Stockholm. Food was quite good, although I wouldn’t say it was amazing. (I’m giving a 5 rating because I feel like a 4 isn’t accurate. If I could give a 4.5, I would).
We started with the öjeby on rye bread, which WAS amazing. It was unexpected but sooo good. We absolutely loved every bite!
My partner got the reindeer roast beef, which wasn’t really roast beef but more like steak. It was good. The apple compote with the mushrooms was a little strange but overall a very nice dish. One of the better reindeer dishes we had while touring Scandinavia.
I got the char fillet, which I really liked. I thought the mashed potatoes were good but pretty generic but all of the other flavors were excellent, especially the combo of dill and cucumber. My dish was better than my partner’s reindeer (although...
