Fantastic hotel, perfectly located. For those coming in from the US, easy to get to from airport. Fastest and cheapest option is to use the Arlana Express (follow floor signs) Buy your ticket at the station, if you buy return ticket, they will sign on it once. Keep it and use it again for return. It stops at Centralen (Stockholm Central Station). From there take a redline or green line towards Gamla Stan and Slussen. Get off at Slussen, its a 5 minute and safe walk to the hotel. Transportation is a breeze. Use credit a card for contactless pay (must be Mastercard or Visa). You can ride train, metro, ferry for same price within a 75 minute period. If you plan to travel multiple days , get a travel card. Sweden is a beautiful country and Stockholm has a lot to see and do. If like me you were challenged deciding on getting the city pass, its not worth it. Back to the hilton, I was there for the AIDSIMPACT Conference ( fantastic conference). I was upgraded because of my diamond status to a room with a view. Got candy as welcome (delightful and tasty and not cheap versions). The staff are wonderful and work really hard. They all speak English and are always willing to help. Breakfast is way better than the typical US hilton breakfast. Fresh ingredients, organic food and noce tasting. Servers want to help you. Special shoutout to "Banjo" who managed the made to order omelette station. He works really hard and still finds time to manage Prima Donnas who feel too important. Dining area was always clean and well managed. Fantastic way to begin one's morning. My room service lady (Monica or something similar - she worked first floor Mon -wed was kind, respectful and did great work. Shout out to her. Executivd lounge is on 4th floor - happy hour is when they bring all the goodies out btw 5-7pm.. A bit small so if you want good aeating with a view, go there at 4:45. Things to note: Went summer (June) late sunset (10pm); early sunrise (3am). They have UV blocking curtains but you must pull them completly over the window and use a chair to hold it in place otherwise the mirror will reflect the light back in and wake you up if sensitive to light. My executive room had a view but I could hear the trains (higher floor better). Greatest feature is location, location, location! The old city with Nobel Prize museum, Kings palace, and tiny beautifuk winding streets are a walk away from the hotel. City hall is also nearby. Ferry to Vasa and Abba museum are minutes away (btw visit the VASA museum to see the worlds oldest warship recovered in full).
Opportunity for improvement. It was sad and heartbreaking to see several homeless people sleeping beside the hotel at night. I felt guilty about the room I had. The hotel should work with safety net organizations to help the homeless. Whatever you do, don't send them away without helping them. I can clearly understand why they would sleep in that area, it is secure and fenced in but still...
Read moreNice room with a view of Gamla Stan and central Stockholm, especially lovely if you're into trainspotting or looking at cars on the main thoroughfare of a city. (The room also had a view of a six lane highway and two railway bridges.) Thankfully, the room was very quiet, hardly any noise from the heavy traffic, though the headboard of the bed rattled slightly from the trains.
Very efficient air-conditioning as the room was rather cold even through a heat wave. (We managed to adjust it to a sensible temperature, more or less.)
Quite opulent marble bathroom with a bathtub. The tub might be a challenge to enter for persons with slight mobiliyu issues. No shower cap or other appliances that you often find and could expect at a Hilton, but soap, lotion, shampoo, and rinse.
The bed was nice and firm, and we slept very well, which, after all, is the most important thing.
The room seemed clean but had a faint whiff of vomit after cleaning every day, which might be a sign that the mop should have been changed, or the vacuum cleaner needs a good clean. (The smell didn't linger, thankfully.)
There is access to a small gym, which is also accessible to members from outside the hotel (was my impression). The gym is called World Class, which it is not. The treadmills were stacked very tightly and would have been difficult to get access had there been more guests. Machines were also quite dusty, full of sweat marks and sticky from old sweat and susch, ergo in desperate need of cleaning. During my several visits, I got the impression that there was no housekeeping in the gym (the same water bottle in its slot on one treadmill three days in a row, empty bottles of cleaming liquid were not refilled etc.) Maybe the staff were on vacation?
The breakfast was ok, not great. (Even if there was Nutella.) The selection on the breakfast buffet wasn't great compared to the price charged. The bread rolls seemed like they were from the day before. I've had far better breakfasts at more reasonably priced hotels in Stockholm. (I'm not certain, of course, but I rather think the experience must be more or less the same from behind the diamond member cordon. You know, the kind of cordon they have at security in airports.)
There were plenty of staff at hand in the breakfast room.
In Sweden, you're generally made to feel very welcome in the service industry. However, I didn't get that feeling at the Hilton Slussen. So, on balance, I think I might try another hotel on my next visit...
Read moreWe visited the Hilton Slussen many years ago, and fond memories led us to book it again as part of a family holiday.||Location:|The Hilton Slussen couldn’t be better placed – a short stroll to Gamla Stan, the ferries, and beyond. For those not keen on racking up the steps, there’s a metro station just 200 metres away. Location gets a firm 5/5 from us.||Rooms:|We were given two executive rooms on the third floor, both with lovely views. Some décor has been “refreshed” since our last visit – let’s just say it’s a light makeover rather than a dramatic transformation. The amenities were good, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. Best of all, the blackout curtains and blinds turned the rooms into pitch-black caves – perfect for those who treat daylight as optional. Rooms were well cleaned, though maintenance could use attention, particularly the toilets, which both required several flushes to get the job done. Another thing to note was that the hotel provides 2 free water cartons to guests but there is a sign saying that you need to be at least a silver status member…….in a country where water is offered free almost everywhere? Score: 3.75/5.||Breakfast:|A strong breakfast offering with plenty of choice, including an omelette station and waffle makers. Service was attentive, replenishments swift, and it never felt overcrowded. My only gripe - the unnecessary table segregation based on HH membership levels. It’s breakfast, not a nightclub queue. Score: 3.75/5.||Executive Lounge:|This has changed since our last visit. These days, it feels more like an abandoned space during the day. The relocated two-hour happy hour at the Eken Restaurant isn’t a bad idea in theory, but the food offerings have slid downhill – repetitive bread-based canapés, cheese, and biscuits that quickly lose their charm. A daily soup change is the sole item keeps things kind of interesting. Staff were friendly, with special thanks to Anna and a helpful Hungarian gentleman whose name escapes me. Score: 3.5/5.||Eken Restaurant:|We dined here three times – consistently very good food and service. Score: 5/5.||Staff:|Front desk staff were polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. Check-in and check-out were quick enough to keep even the most impatient traveller calm. Score: 5/5.||Overall:|A great location, solid service, and some standout meals – but a few areas could do with more modernization. We’d still consider returning albeit with slightly lowered lounge...
