Do you know what happened 2 weeks ago in Asia? It was Lunar New Year 🎊 & several Asian countries celebrated it. If you’re Asian or if you wanna know more about our festival traditional-like food, don’t hesitate to continue reading this review about a small authentic Japanese restaurant called Mama Wolf! The main slogan of Mama Wolf is that there is more Japanese food than 🍱! Thus, there is no 🍣 on their tiny menu, only regular food including 🍜, 🍙, japanese pancakes, & side dishes instead. Teri-Chicken Rice Bowl (125kr): it’s a normal 🍚 made from sushi rice combined with marinated grilled 🐓 & 🥬. The yuzu & teriyaki sauce on top of the bowl lightened the particular taste of teriyaki to not let it overshadow the other ingredients. This bowl looks like other common rice bowls but if you did some proper mix, it turned out to be a perfect regular japanese chicken rice dish! Pork Dash Curry Udon (130kr) & Pork Spicy Miso Udon (170kr): the reason why we ordered 2 noodles is that noodles represent longevity in Asia & chinese longevity noodles are 1 of the must-eat in New Year. But we couldn’t find the longevity noodles here, so we decided to go for udon instead to have some new year’s feelings (it’s still noodles though). Both of the Udon were so excellent from the broth, noodles to the braised pork. While the curry broth was quite authentic with mild taste, the spicy miso broth had a fattier & creamier texture with stronger & saltier taste 🤤. Despite their different tastes, it was possible to sip all of them until the last drop. Aside from the broth, the noodles & the 🐷 are the same in both dishes. The former was perfectly cooked & the latter was well-marinated as well as braised long enough to be “melted” on our tongue right away. Their menu has a variation of drinks 🍶 & mouth-watering desserts 🍡 to choose from but we didn’t try any of them since we only had time for a quick lunch! A small comment on the space, it’s quite a small restaurant with very few 🪑🪑 (especially under this pandemic situation). Thus, make sure that you come there early or avoid the peak hours ⏱, otherwise you have to either take away or wait outside! Note: You should head to Mama Wolf early to catch up their budget-friendly lunch set! P/s: Mana Wolf is vegan- & gluten-friendly! 💰Food 30-170 SEK; Drinks 15-240 SEK. 👍🏻 Location 8/10 - Space 7/10 – Food 8/10 – Price 7/10 – Service 9/10. Follow us on IG foodstuckers.sthlm to read...

MamaWolf offers Japanese street food with Okonomiyaki (a Japanese pancake made with flour, egg and shredded cabbage which is served with sauce and Japanese mayo) as their staple dish. They also offer other common Japanese street food dishes such as Ramen, Edamame, Karaage (fried chicken) etc.
Food: MamaWolf’s Okonomiyaki will take your senses through a trip in Japan with delicious, umami-filled flavour which people who have eaten food in Japan will recognise instantly. With pork, veggie (lacto-ovo) and low-carb options, there is something for everyone.
The side dishes complements the Okonomiyaki well and their ramen beats most of their competitor in Stockholm. They offer vegetarian options as well as vegan options (ramen, etc) which is clearly marked on the menu.
MamaWolf also offers snacks, deserts and a wide variety of sake with occasional tasting sessions.
Price: Average price for a person is similar to an average lunch in Stockholm, which is affordable compared to most Japanese restaurants.
Interior: The interior is reminiscent of a Japanese izakaya with a Scandinavian touch. The walls are bright and clean with colorful signs that both describes and illustrates the dishes that are served. The inside is small and can be a little bit cramped when it’s full. They offer outside seating during summer.
Staff: The staff is helpful and are more than willing to guide you through the menu.

Read moreSmall restaurant with a Japanese style of street food. The Japanese kitchen is famous for it's unique flavours so the expectation was high on Mama Wolf. Especially since they wrote Japanese food is more than just sushi. Receiving our food went rather fast. I ordered Teri-Kara (Air fried chicken with teriyaki sauce, rice with Yuzu mayo and the Wolf salad washing it all down with their own ale called Mama Wolf jet beer. My wife got a Onigiri with Yakuniku beef and a Spicy Karaage (Air fried chicken with homemade chili sauce). The presentation of each dish was a feast for the eyes.
With all this in mind I really have to reveal that the taste of it wasn't wow. It was alright but did miss that little extra. My wife's Onigiri was a bit dry with no sauce to it. The dishes were small so I ordered more food. This time something different. And this time I got something closer to the an experience we had longed for. The grilled slow cooked pork belly called Yaki-Kakuni was the best attempt to a positive surprise.
One thing that anoyed us during the dinner was the selection of music. In this case Stoner Rock and Metal. I get that they want to do something different and I have nothing against the music itself. It just was anoying during a dinner, when you want too have a conversation to battle the sound landscape of guitar solos and growling voices.
So we left Mama Wolf with a frustrating thought in the head saying "What if Mama Wolf was a bit more Japanese and a bit less everything else". Perhaps...
