I stayed 2 nights at this hotel in early October and highly recommend it to others.
After following the instructions posted next to the intercom at the right of the street entrance, Clara came down to let me in. I arrived before 3 pm but she let me into my room early as it was ready. She asked about my plans in the city and made excellent recommendations on how to get around the city and a few different areas to visit while annotating a map for me, then she showed me to my room. It was a nice open room with big windows overlooking Hornsgatan with a private bathroom. I did not find street noise to be a problem, which may be due to being here in October. The large windows had blinds and large curtains, which did a good job of blocking the outside light. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was very nice with a good size walk in shower (compared to many European showers I’ve been in), towel warmer, shelf, hooks, and a place to hang my toiletry bag.
The breakfast has a nice variety of foods typical for Sweden (yogurt, grains, breads, meat and cheeses, vegetables, buns, etc.) and they were kind enough to pack me a to-go breakfast bag as I had to checkout before their typical breakfast time which I picked up in the breakfast room fridge on my way out. Let them know the night before and they’ll set this up for you. They also have coffee, tea, buns, cakes, water, juices, etc. available at all times in the breakfast room.
The location is good—the nearest subway stop is about 1.5 blocks away, less than a 5 min. walk. Gamla Stan is about a 15 min. walk away. There are many restaurants and coffee shops in the area.
I enjoyed my stay here and highly recommend Hotel...
Read moreI love the hotel; the staff were friendly, informative and would go the extra mile to help the customers, not to forget they were very generous with the snacks- a wide variety of milk and cereals, fruits, biscuits, cinnamon buns, and juices available throughout the day. The room was spacious and clean, with no private bathroom, but it was not an issue at all since the bathroom was always available when I needed to use it. The venue was centrally located and within walking distance to Gamla Stan (about 15 minutes), and the SOFO area (10 minutes to the Slussen district); should you feel tired of walking, they were just 2 and 1 subway stop(s) away from Mariatorget, the closest subway, a mere 200 metres walk from the hotel. Within the vicinity, there were many local supermarkets, second hand stores where you could have interesting finds, bars and restaurant (which is a downside since it got a bit noisy at night, but the problem was easily solved by closing the window that acted as very effective sound insulator, and they provide a fan that cools the room during summer). All in all, it is not the typical hotel you would have anywhere else; I'd like to think of it as a step up of the youth hostel, but a step down from the commercial hotel, but you never feel shortchanged at all as a guest because although they didn't provide with the luxuries, but they made me feel very welcomed because they tried to go above and beyond to make my stay a...
Read moreYou should book this hotel! Coming from the USA, I’m very familiar with big chains like Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, IHG, etc., and feeling like unless you have top elite status you get the basics and nothing more. At the Hotel Hornsgatan, they offer a quintessential Scandinavian experience that makes you feel very quickly at home. This starts with the staff, who were always smiling and happy to help any way they could. I was in a lovely room with a cozy bed, and easy access to communal bathrooms (they’re single stall and have a shower, toilet, and sink). They offer a delightful breakfast that was healthy, filling, and energizing. Finally, the location is perfect! Super convenient to public transit and in a great area for shops, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Highly recommend, and looking forward...
