I discovered this restaurant while exploring the area around my Airbnb. I was particularly attracted to the beautiful sushi bar, but was actually looking for Katsu, which they do not cook during the day on weekdays. So I returned yesterday evening and could not have been more disappointed.
In the first place, the rice that was served was so hard that it needed to be cut with a knife and fork. I'm not joking or exaggerating. It could not be torn apart with chopsticks and was difficult to chew.
Secondly, the thin cut of pork katsu was tough, almost like shoe leather, with lots of gristle. Yuck. It had very little panko as well.
Most importantly, the kimchi.....wasn't. I lived in Korea for many years and have made my own kimchi for decades. That was not kimchi. While it was certainly made from Napa cabbage, it was not made with Korean pepper powder. Instead, someone had poured yellow sauce into the mix. It almost tasted like Valentino's hot sauce from Mexico.
This is really odd because the business sells big bags of Korean 🌶 powder that are clearly visible on the shelves. My guess is that either the chefs have never had real kimchi or the business is trying to save money by using less expensive ingredients. Either way, It's...
Read moreThis place was okay overall, but quite disappointing given the high rating. The food was average tasting compared to the one we had in Seoul, Korea (it tasted partly authentic) and the ingredients used are low quality (rice used is not the asian type but the cheapest local type, for instance).
The service was also very slow (around 40 minutes for two simple dishes) although it is already prepared and just reheated. The Lunch Menu is 30 lei but the food quality is not amazing. Eatable, however. Prices are quite high (around 10 euro / dish) but the portions are quite big. They also have a shop included with Korean products but at quite steep prices (for example a brand of soju sold in Korea for 6 ron is sold in this store for 45 ron)
The staff is always smiling, however in a strange fake way, which feels quite awkward often, especially in contrast with the poor service and the way they are rushing the clients. They do not speak great English either, so you will have a difficult time asking details about the dishes (even something as simple as level of spiciness). Would not necessarily...
Read moreNice joint in the middle of the office park in Pipera, Dimitrie Pompeiu. As we say "chinezarii are za best", it seems they do not disappoint. Nice Korean place, they serve sushi and a few other courses composed of non or mild sweet and hot meat (chicken or pork). 3-4 side dishes and couple vegetarian courses. Sushi has a lot of rice, so it is good to go as a group and have a couple pieces as an appetizer. More, would be eating almost plain rice, which is not Japanese style, but improvised. So medium quality sushi. Also good house teriyaki sauce, their own recipe. Decent Korean barbeque, is worth having. The atmosphere gets 2 stars because they have 2 doors and when people come in or get out it is very cold, especially during the cold season. Not a great experience, as people tend to leave the doors half way open. Beverages prices are high. You can also buy quite a lot of Korean items, ranging from sauces and sweets to instant food (Asian style hot pots). Overall, a place to visit and eat from...
