I visited Manuc’s Inn, which is the oldest operating hotel in Romania, being built in 1808. The restaurant inside has a very traditional atmosphere, having live Romanian folk dance and music being performed all night. The guests were even getting up and dancing around the tables. I started with their meat platter, which featured; Beef pastrami, pork neck, chicken breast, mici (Romanian ground meat rolls made from lamb, pork and beef), baked potato’s, sauerkraut and pickles. The mici were very soft, rare in the middle and incredibly tasty. They were some of the best sausages I’ve tried. They had a strong meat flavour with a blend of spices, noticeably tasting; Paprika, pepper, fennel and coriander. The beef pastrami was tender, having a strong peppery taste with hints of garlic. The pork neck was quite bland in flavour, cooked nicely, but not exciting the palate. The chicken breast had a beautiful Smokey flavour, but it was slightly overcooked, being a bit dry. The potato’s were roasted nicely, with a buttery taste, crispy on the exterior, soft and fluffy on the inside. The sauerkraut and pickles had a strong, sour kick with a crispy vinegar flavour. They were quite excessive, taking up half the platter, but they tasted delicious. There was a horseradish-mustard like sauce on the side, which especially paired well with the mici. Now, for dessert, the papanasi (Romanian donuts), were a highlight. They are freshly made donuts, which are topped with a sour tasting, melted, creamy-cottage cheese with rich and sweet preserved blueberries. These ones had a very slight orange-zest taste. Overall, this was a great insight into the traditional Romanian cuisine, especially being surrounded by Romanian culture in an energetic environment.

After dining I had a somewhat mixed experience. On the positive side, the quality of the food was excellent. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, so no complaints there. However, I found the prices to be on the high side for what you receive. For instance, a simple salad priced at 17 euros really should come with at least some bread included. Charging that much without offering even a small accompaniment felt unreasonable. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow, and we had to wait a long time between courses. This really detracted from the overall experience, especially since it wasn’t a particularly busy night. Another issue was the atmosphere. Non-smokers are seated alongside smokers, which made it very difficult to enjoy the meal. The smell of smoke was overpowering and unpleasant, especially when you're trying to savor the flavors of your food. A clearer separation or a smoke-free environment would significantly improve the dining experience for non-smokers. In summary, while the food itself was great, the slow service, high prices, and the uncomfortable smoking situation left me feeling disappointed.

Amazingly BAD!!! When I first arrived to this restaurant I can say that it was an beautiful place to visit! We sit to the table, as we order the food it camed to us very quickly!! My first impression of the food is that it was unacceptable!! We ordered the traditional soup.. I haven't eaten it before but I think it was definitely not as it should be!! No taste, plain water with tomatoes, some overcooked beans and 2 pieces of pork from another place cooked! Served in bread which for me did not spoil, made with yeast and oil. Normally it should be on a sourdough bread with a crispy and thick crust to be able to keep the soup inside... it's not enough that it was tasteless, but if you don't manage to eat it within 5 minutes, the bad bread absorbs it and it has no substance. After us came the side dishes, an indifferent and very poor quality eggplant and then a wrong appetizer which we didn't order but I didn't even understand what it was... I think it was at least that had a substantial taste. Finally I get to the mains which were a variety of meats. Everything was badly cooked, the kebab prepared from lidl, the chicken indifferent as well as its salt, the beef abused with a sensual aroma of lamb and garlic, the pork neck I would have expected at least a more tender piece... but it was also abused!! and the side dishes .. the canned pickled cucumber, the cabbage ok a good effort and half a kilo of mustard to drown your pain. In the end, he brought us a wrong bill, which I complained about, and then they brought the right one! in general, if you want to become a FOOD VICTIM , this is a good place to come!! It's a shame they DONT have delicious Romanian food in such a beautiful place!! It's not difficult guys, it just takes love and patience!
