The service was very bad. 1 employee has been rude and been fighting with us. TWICE! THE SAME EMPLOYEE.
First bad experience; 1 evening, after we ordered foods and drinks, when all the foods arrive, except for 1, so we remind the waiter we said 1 more left, masala dossa (while 1 finger), maybe the waiter think we want to order 1 more masala dosa. So he added 1 more order. When arrived there were 2 masala dosa. Then we said no no, we ordered only 1. The rude employee said ‘No Mam, you ordered 2.’ Then we said no no, what we meant was masala dosa not coming yet, 1. Then he said ‘I already ordered, you just eat’. (Already being rude). Then i said ‘this is your mistake’, he said back ‘No mam, this is your mistake’ He just talks back whatever i said, after i quiet, then he left. He was really want to fight whatever it is.
Solutions: He can say sorry and just send back to the kitchen. Khalas. Yes, maybe its an honest mistake, miscommunication, it can happen to anyone, if the waiter being polite and apologise we can consider to pack the food, this coz hes being rude!
Second bad experience. Yesterday evening, me and kids came and seated at ground floor, 1 of the waiter asked us to seat upstairs, I asked why we cannot seat here? he said we have to seat upstairs. Ok, that time Im being patient. I follow whatever instructed. We went upstairs, WHILE CARRYING KIDS. 1 of the waiter he asked how many person, i said 5 persons, but i want the table for 6. He showed me our table, then we seated. After my husband arrived (he was finding parking), we ordered our foods. THE SAME GUY THE OTHER DAY, rudely asked us to change table! He said we cannot seat there, we only 5, there is table for 5 persons. He even try open our chair so that we start to move! I told my husband this is the same waiter the other day. My husband asked him whats your problem? Why u always treats us like this? My husband keep said the same things then my husband said We want to seat here khalas why you force us to move. He said coz its only 5 of us and this table is for 6 and its salah time they want to pray there(they giving excuses). We said if u want to pray here why u showed us this table in the first place? First we already sat downstairs, one of u asked to go upstairs, then 1 of u asked us to seat this table and now you asked us to move? again?! He keeps asking us to move and seat another table. What i learn about him over the past experience, he wont back out or surender. My husband went downstairs and try to complain to the cashier about the waiter, because it was our second time bad treatment from the same person. The cashier just said its salah time its salah time. We dont know the employee’s name, they wont tell us. We just left the place. No sorry or anything! They just see us go.
Solutions: He can just let us sit there no issue! We’re not gonna eat very long. He can apologise and ask us KINDLY, not the way we been treated.
We been kind enough to come back many times because our children likes to eat puri there. This is what we get?! These was the top 2 worst experience we received there. They treat us like garbage! Do they think we eating there for free? They have many customers thats why they dont care.
BAD SERVICE. (The employee is on the...
Read moreChennai Darbar has become my go-to restaurant for consistently satisfying meals. Whether it's breakfast, dinner, or tiffin items, this place never fails to impress.
Their idli, dosa, poori, and kothu parotta exceed expectations with their authentic South Indian flavors. The service is impeccable—I've never waited more than 10 minutes for my entire order to be served. The wait staff is efficient and attentive, adding to the pleasant dining experience.
If there's one area for improvement, it would be their lunch thalis. While generally good, the rice used doesn't quite match the high standards expected by South Indian cuisine enthusiasts. Switching to a ponni-like rice variety could elevate dishes like lemon rice and curd rice to perfection.
On the other hand, their biryani is a standout dish. The rice is perfectly cooked, the meat-to-rice ratio is spot on, and the blend of spices is just right. I particularly recommend their Madras biryani over the Hyderabad variant, given the restaurant's name and expertise in South Indian cuisine.
Their chicken dishes are particularly noteworthy, especially their house speciality Chicken Darbar 65. However, their beef dishes tend to be overcooked, which could be a texture issue for some. Additionally, they use frozen prawns in their dishes, which may not meet expectations for freshness and taste. I wouldn't recommend opting for prawn dishes here.
What sets Chennai Darbar apart is not just the quality of their food but also their affordability. Despite offering top-notch dishes, their prices are significantly lower than other restaurants of similar caliber in Jeddah. This makes it a popular choice for families and individuals looking for value without compromising on taste.
Another highlight of Chennai Darbar is their diverse menu, catering to a variety of tastes and preferences AT ALL TIMES OF THE DAY. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty biryani or a crispy Ghee dosa for Friday lunch, Chennai Darbar...

Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food: 4/5 The restaurant features a variety of dishes, and the Fish Biryani comes highly recommended. Diners can expect well-executed flavours, with the fish cooked to perfection. The Mutton Biryani is notable for its richness and tenderness, while the Chicken Lollipop is crispy, juicy, and flavorful. To complement the meal, a refreshing Sugar Lassi is available.
Service: 3/5 The service is adequate, though there are areas for improvement. Staff members may appear slightly overwhelmed at times, leading to minor delays in food delivery. However, they maintain a polite and accommodating demeanour when attending to customers.
Atmosphere: 4/5 The dining environment is cosy and clean, creating a welcoming atmosphere. While not overly luxurious, it provides a comfortable setting for enjoying a meal with family or friends.
Price: Chennai Darbar is notable for its affordability. The overall cost for generous portions of biryani, appetisers, and a drink is just 74 riyals. This pricing is competitive with similar Indian restaurants in Makkah.
