I was really looking forward to having a great lunch with my friends today. We had been planning this get-together for days — just to relax, catch up, enjoy good food and good company. Since I’ve always liked this restaurant and had wonderful experiences at their other location, I recommended we try their new branch.

Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.

We had a reservation, but still had to wait around 30 minutes to be seated — even though we were a group of five adults, a baby, and two pregnant women. Once seated, the tables were so close together that it was hard to move around comfortably. While trying to leave, someone bumped into me, and later into my baby.

When we arrived at the table, I was clearly looking for help with a high chair for my baby. The manager and another staff member saw me struggling but didn’t offer any help — they just stood there watching until a waiter eventually came over.

The food arrived dish by dish, not all at once, and while we were still eating, a waiter came and told us the kitchen was about to close, so if we wanted anything else, we had to order now. We had planned to enjoy dessert and coffee after our meal, so that felt rushed. A short while later, yet another person came over to tell us the restaurant was closing for a private event — something we were never informed about when we arrived.

I tried to explain that we were still eating, and the way the situation was being handled felt extremely unfair. Then, they began clearing and stacking all the tables and chairs around us while we were still seated. At no point did the manager come to address the situation — until we were already outside the restaurant. And even then, when I tried to calmly explain what had happened, he didn’t let me speak which I found disrespectful.

This is not the level of service I’ve come to expect from this restaurant, and it’s especially disappointing given how much I love the food and how excited I was to support their new location. I visited Brunch & Cake KAFD on a very sunny morning. It was quite a bit of a walk from the metro station, but I was delightful surprised by the restaurant.

The decor is welcoming and the interior design creates a homely ambience. The staff were quick to greet me, and I was particularly pleased with how the staff had beaming smiles on their faces. Great first impression!

I ordered Eggs Benedict with a cappuccino. The presentation and portion size of the eggs were plentiful and the side hummus added an extra umami to the fluffy eggs.

My cappuccino was expertly brewed, and I tasted the elements of espresso, milk, and foam proportionately in thirds. The espresso had the perfect crema, blending into the milk and foam to create a sensational experience.

The manager/supervisor at the time was quite friendly. She checked on my table to see how my meal was going. She had a great relationship with the staff as I witnessed excellent rapport among them.

On that day, there was a birthday celebration taking place. The manager/supervisor expertly prepared, hid, and lighted the cake. It was a joyous moment as I saw the whole staff take part in this celebration, and the manager made it that much more memorable for the birthday girl.
