Restoran Enso — Restaurant in City of Belgrade

In short: close to being good but just misses the mark. Not sure I'd go again, but I wouldn't hate it if I had to go.

The long story:

I messaged the restaurant about my lactose intolerance and they were more than happy to accommodate me. Very friendly in replies 👍

We got to the restaurant a few minutes before our scheduled time and they were more than happy to accommodate us right away 👍

The waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable. 👍

You can create your own tasting menu on the spot which is super cool but both people have to order the exact same thing. I get the reason for this but it makes for a slightly uncomfortable situation. Mixed feelings. 👍 👎

The waiter initially forgot to take our dessert order and came back while we were eating to ask. Kind of ruined the flow of the conversation. I wish he asked while delivering the next course. 👎

The tablet for ordering didn't work properly. You couldn't order using it so it felt like a gimmick that didn't really make sense. 👎

I get that it's not their fault some ingredients were missing but I wish the waiter told us that a meal was unavailable before we ordered. 👎 Although the recommendation he gave to replace the meal we couldn't pick was nice 👍

The food was .. interesting. Most of the dishes we tried seemed to have a similar note. There was a puree of some sort (apricot, pear, etc ) which was sweet. Then they pair that with something slightly sour (like cabbage with sauerkraut powder, or red cabbage, etc ) and then a meat. (Lots of cabbage)

I'm going to assume that if I let the chef pick my meals it would have been more diverse, so i won't criticize this too much. But our experience was mostly...the same taste across all meals. Mixed feelings 👎 👍

The meats were all very tender. I had some small issue with the lamb because it had too much gristle, but i guess this is a matter of preference. 👍

I thought it was odd that for a high end restaurant they would let their staff sit right next to the customers and take their lunch while watching stuff on their phone at a fairly loud volume. Not sure why they don't take their lunch in the staff break room like in most restaurants. The volume from the phone overpowered the music played at the restaurant (the staff member was 2 tables away from us) and took away from the experience. 👎

I liked that this was a high end restaurant but the vibe was chill. It didn't feel stuffy. The restaurant interior was beautiful and the vibe was great. 👍

The waiters all spoke English 👍

They packed up my dessert to go when I asked. 👍

My dining partner wanted to eat her desert right away while I wanted to take it away. I would expect a restaurant like this to pack mine to go as we are leaving (since it has ice cream) but they brought it out at the same time as my dining partner. A bit of an oversight. 👎

Overall it was a mediocre experience for the class of restaurant this is trying to be. Great if you compare it to some...

Enso Restoran came highly recommended by friends in Belgrade, as a Michelin star dining experience.

A place you visit as a destination restaurant, as the location leaves a little to be desired, located off a busy road, but the setup has been designed to ensure you have the privacy of a fine dining establishment.

We feel this is definitely more of a dinner establishment as opposed to a long lazy lunch restaurant. During the hot summer days of Belgrade, unfortunately, the comfort isn't there, due to no air conditioning or fans, inside and outdoors. This did cause us to shorten our typical long lazy lunch due to the level of comfort.

When charging a higher premium for food and wine, you do expect the little extra luxuries to ensure you can enjoy the experience.

Update 11/8: Good news, since our visit we have been notified by the restaurant that it is in fact air conditioned and it was out of action during our visit, so you can be assured the temperature will be comfortable to enjoy the full dining experience.

Front of the house go out of their way to make you feel welcome and very attentive service, unfortunately, the back of the house just needs that little bit of extra effort, although we suspect during the evening you will receive the experience that you expect.

The food was good, and plated beautifully, unfortunately, the steak was served rare as opposed to medium as requested, overall felt a little rushed, even though we were the only guests dining that day.

The Interior indoors is stunning and huge marks for our very attentive and friendly waiter, he definitely made our day.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Enso Belgrade, and I must say that the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The food at this establishment is truly amazing - each dish on the tasting menu was a delightful culinary journey that left my taste buds thoroughly impressed.

However, what truly set this dining experience apart was the outstanding service provided by our waiter, Alexandra. His deep knowledge and meticulous explanations of each dish on the tasting menu added a whole new dimension to our meal. Not only was he incredibly professional, but his genuine passion for the food he served was truly evident in her detailed descriptions. As guests visiting from London, we were thoroughly impressed by the overall dining experience at Enso Belgrade and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a top-notch culinary experience paired with exceptional service.
