[HIDDEN GEMšŸ’Ž] Stumbled upon this spot serving affordable western food šŸ“

Shocked to find out that they’ve been around for 8 years already 😳 Located beside Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre, The Carving Board serves hearty western food out of a coffeeshop. Here’s what we had!

🌟 Bangers and Mash ($12) Pork sausages served with mashed potato

🌟 Grilled Chicken ($14) A chef recommendation, this is my favourite item (out of the dishes that I’ve tried so far) 🫶 The grilled chicken remains tender and is lathered with a generous amount of gravy ✨

🌟 Pork Steak ($16) Tried this on multiple occasions and I’m on the fence about this. The Canadian pork loin could be more tender on our first visit, but it impressed us on our second…so I guess I’ll have to revisit again to try HAHA totally not an excuse for me to head back again šŸ’€

🌟 Seafood Pesto Pasta ($13) For pasta, we ordered the spinach pesto seafood pasta šŸ¦šŸ¦‘šŸ¦Ŗ It is a decent plate of pasta, but I’ll probably try other dishes when I am back 🤭

🌟 Battered Fish & Chips ($12) No pictures of this because our stomachs were protesting 🫠 The Pacific dory fish is crispy on the outside and soft tender on the inside. Comes with fries and tartare sauce

🌟 Aus Grain-Fed Striploin Steak ($23) If you’re feeling a bit more bougie, opt for the striploin (250gm)šŸ„

For westies, this spot is worth visiting. Food is reasonably priced. We spent around $70 for 5 pax and left with satisfied bellies🤰

Head over earlier, else do expect to wait!

My wife brought me here for a family meal, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The menu offered a wide variety of options, which was a relief considering how picky my daughter can be when it comes to food.

As a steak lover, I was happy to see some solid choices—and naturally, I went for the striploin. My wife, ever the fan of classic comfort food, chose the fish and chips. Our daughter ordered the grilled chicken, and our son went for the cheeseburger.

The highlight of the meal? Surprisingly, the rice that accompanied the grilled chicken. Perfectly seasoned and aromatic—it left a lasting impression. My steak leaned more toward medium-well than the medium-rare I ordered, but the cut was still flavorful and satisfying.

The fish and chips were another standout—light, fluffy, and likely made with dory. A real crowd-pleaser. The cheeseburger hit all the right notes as well—juicy, well-seasoned, and nicely presented.

One thing we didn’t expect: the avalanche of fries. It felt like every dish came with a mountain of them. Not a complaint, just… a lot of fries!

Service was excellent throughout, attentive and friendly. It happened to be raining during our visit, which kept the atmosphere cool and pleasant. I can imagine it might get warm on sunnier days, but hopefully, it’s just as comfortable then.

Overall, a great meal with something for everyone. We’ll...

Food is fantastic and the price point is reasonable: The ribeye steak, pork steak, vongole, beer battered fish and chips, even their mushroom risotto with some crunchy bits of vegetable mixed in… everything is delicious. Despite the coffee shop setting, the ambience is awesome, and the area is clean.

However service here leaves much to be desired. The moment you finish your food for around 2 minutes, someone takes your plate away and start spraying down the table in front of you while you’re still processing your meal in your seat. (Saw this happen to another table, and the shop wasn’t very busy). If you take more than 20 seconds to decide what you want to eat, the counter lady sasses you or face palm openly at you. I’ve been back here multiple times, and it has consistently been the same.

A place that gives me mixed feelings- I’m really there for the food which is amazing, but the service always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Understandably, it’s a coffee shop. I rather have the option of just doing the tray return on my own so I can sit and process my food a bit longer.

Edit: Visited them again recently and service improved tremendously!!! So hooray to brilliant food and awesome...
