UPDATE - Reply to owner: The service was in Slovak, so there was no misunderstanding in translation. The fries prior to frying are coated in something that contains gluten, according to the waitress who asked the kitchen. If that's not true, then I apologize - but this is what I was told. About not being served food, we know that you serve food at all tables, the issue was that we had to wait for our reserved table (which was occupied by another guests even after our reservation was supposed to start), and until we got it we were advised to get only drinks while waiting, not food. Even though we waited almost an hour. I hope you will manage to work on these issues, because Colette is a lovely place with great food, but at this point, the experience is very different with every visit.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this place. Don't get me wrong - the food is amazing, the vibes are great, the drinks are interesting, service well delivered. But the first time we came, we arrived 10 minutes early. Our table was apparently occupied by someone, so they temporarily seated us at a different table. But we couldn't order any food (only drinks) while we had to wait for our reservation! And surprisingly, our table wasn't free at the reserved time either. We had to wait 30 more minutes just to be seated somewhere esle. Not cool... Then I was checking with the waitress if the french fries are indeed gluten free (there's no gluten or cereals indicated in the allergens), and they assured me they are, and they carefully fry it in a separate frier, apart from other dishes. However, she came back to tell me that the chefs roll the potatoes in flour (or something like that), so eventually the fries are NOT gluten free. Be very careful when ordering, because the fact that they offer their own GF bread (which was amazing) gives off the feeling that they know what they're doing with allergens. Oh, and then they managed to put fried shallots (in 99% they contain gluten because of being rolled in wheat flour) on my salad, even though the list of ingredients or allergens did not indicate it should be in the salad. The second time we visited we had no issues, we already knew what we're up for and we had a lovely dinner. I'd say, given the price point (quite expensive for the neighborhood and for Bratislava in general) and the concept, some details are unfortunately overlooked. But to be completely honest, it will not stop me from...
Read moreIt pains me to leave such a review, but it was a huge disappointment. I am talking about the food. See also the attached pictures (on their page vs what I got). Probably a bad day for a cook or I don’t know, but definitely not worth 15€ per appetizer and 28€ for steak. Appetizer - I had fish Tahiti with coconut foam. You couldn’t know that there is also onion and orange included, with dill (according to the menu). This was so bland, coconut overpowering, nothing in balance nor complementing, it wasn’t palatable at all. Felt weird even to swallow it, with a cold fish. Maybe as a summer appetizer if you must. And for the main course, the steak came overly done and so sad looking (they didn’t even bother to ask you your preference - raw, medium or done - nothing). I have never had such a bad steak in my life. It was really a small piece of meat and as a “bonus”, the steak came completely SOAKED with a “sauce” poured over it. The sauce was extremely salty, so much so you couldn’t taste anything else than the salt. It was meant to be a pepper sauce. It left me incredibly thirsty and my tongue truly hurt. What was okay? Maybe the french fries as the side dish - even though so sharp and dry at the edges that they could literally scratch your mouth. As everyone noted, truly small establishment and crowded with people, the french way if you will. The music was so loud that you couldn’t hear a word. And the best? We ordered at 6pm, the appetizer came to us after 1hour of waiting and the main course came 1 hour after that. So total 2 hours just waiting for the food. They bring beverages/desserts approximately 20 minutes after ordering. The only good thing there was the Sommelier. Besides him, one of the waitresses serving us was kind and assisted with choosing the dishes according to our food intolerances. But the other one seemed to be lost and even had the “balls” to look at us after 2 hours of waiting for food, if we want to sit here any longer, because if yes, then order something more. For those who don’t know, there is an “estimated visit” time at the reservation page that allows you to select 2 hours maximum. Probably that was the reason for her “look”, so they could “free up space for others”. Overall,...
Jedlo prišla objednať opäť čašníčka – objednali sme dve degustačné menu a tri individuálne jedlá s predjedlom a hlavným chodom.
Someliér navrhol papriku, súhlasila som a poprosila aj trochu rajčiny – teda objednali sme steak so „sviežou“ zeleninou.
