MONDIEU — Restaurant in Bratislava

We found Mondieu to have lunch based on the very high Google review score.

We ate 3 main courses (salmon, chicken, beef), no starters or dessert.

The venue has a lot of qualities but unfortunately our experience was let down by a couple of things.

Let me start with the good experiences:

Perfect location with view of the river Danube and located in a mall with free parking Very cozy, stylish ambience enhanced by huge palm-like plants inside, quality interior furnishings and fancy espresso equipment (Victoria Arduino at its best :) ) All staff were very friendly, fast and polite The salmon and the chicken were both very tasty, mellow and presented in a creative way

And the things that could or should be improved:

The fresh orange juice was tastless, watered up(!!!) and made as a foam, it lacked all fibers - we should have sent it back…

The beef was so chevy that my company could not handle it so I had to eat it all. Truth to be told, it was well flavoured and the presentation was appealing.

Overall, our experience was not that bad but the watered ‘fresh orange juice’ really let us down. In such a nice place that was an inexcusable low blow. :(

For the beef I recommend to use sous-vide or similar process to soften the meat - I know it is not easy to find good quality...

Lovely food, stunning interior, and friendly service. The picturesque view of the Danube River is an added bonus.

The café’s interior is beautifully designed and very inviting. Situated by the Danube, it must be a delightful experience to sit outside on a sunny day. While the staff was pleasant, they seemed a bit rushed when taking orders, which felt slightly odd. It was also a little uncomfortable to notice the staff staring, possibly judging, especially if you’re a tourist or outsider—this wasn’t a great impression.

That said, the café offers an excellent selection of breakfast options, and I’d definitely return to try more dishes. Very modern concept, carefully selected dishes and coffee varieties in the menu. But all this is ruined by a few employees who are like strays in the hospitality industry. I have visited a few other coffee shops from the same franchise in Bratislava and I must point out that when I pay in cash some of the employees do not give me change on the grounds that they do not have change and they turn around and leave. It's not about the money itself, as I would leave tips anyway, but it's the manner of how it is done. What annoyed me the most the last time I visited this place was that the drinks were served in dirty and sticky trays with leftovers from milk and coffee.
