Bistro Štorja — Restaurant in Postojna

This place was pretty disappointing. After all of the excellent reviews, we were really looking forward to it. The service was abysmal: they didn't bring us a drink menu, they plopped the cutlery down on a plate and never took it away, no effort was made to see how the food was, and they didn't speak to us after the food was dropped in front of us except to offer us a bill. The goulash was unbelievably bland and when mixed with the gnocchi it was not a nice experience. My wife's steak sandwich was apparently much better. Maybe today was an off day; regardless, I won't be coming back.

After the response from the owner, I am downgrading our review to one star. We entered the premises and made sure to say hello in Slovenian which is not our native language, then were guided to a dirty table by a surly waiter who did not offer us any suggestions regarding drinks or direct us to the bar. Furthermore we were treated like we did not belong there or deserve the attention of the waitstaff. I had to get up from the table and go to the bar in order to receive our bill after waiting for our plates to be taken.

After a long day sightseeing and horrible food in Venice the day before, we decided to stay in this town for the night instead of pressing on to Ljubljana for the night.

Upon check-in we asked our hotel for a recommendation on where to dine. He said this is his favorite but probably can’t get in without a reservation. I called right away and got a table.

The service started off slow but improved.

The food was amazing!

We started with the cheese plate. The cave aged cheese was my favorite. Followed by the beef salad and risotto. The salad was a little busy and I think it would have been better without the corn and chickpeas but the risotto was amazing.

For our mains we had the salmon and chicken. Wow! Just wow!

The sommelier helped us pick a fantastic wine.

I’m just sad I couldn’t enjoy dessert. Just couldn’t get another bite of food inside me.

Terrible experience. The waiter (Martin) was rude, there was plastic in my food and the glass of water was dirty. The food was ok, but the overall experience was unpleasant. The long story: since corona is quite widely spread in Slovenia, I was happy to see they had chairs and tables outside. I got in to ask the waiter if I could sit outside (it was warm winter day). He looked at me with anger in his eyes and asked: did you see any tables being set outside? And added a reply "No!" with raised voice. Since I was really hungry, I took my chances and sat inside, where there were already some people not wearing masks and talking loud. He brought soup with no care, so it got spilled all over the plate, the glass of water had stains of his fingers and the ragu contained 2 inches big piece of plastic. I was quite unhappy, but due to my hunger was able to eat half of the ragu. I paid 7,5 € and will not return to...
