Incredible. This place is just beyond expectations. My husband booked, and I was a little apprehensive as the online pictures don't really do it justice. We arrived, and the building stood out on what was a pretty regular South African street. We were shown to a table upstairs and were given plenty of time to look over the menu. A plate of bread and pot of salsa was brought for us before we ordered our meal. The wine list was very selective, and only two white and two red could be ordered per glass. We chose a red blend, which our waiter kindly outlined for us before we decided. The food came at well-timed intervals, we didn't feel rushed, it was a very enjoyable meal. The food quality was the best we've had in the three weeks of travelling Soith Africa. It was cooked perfectly for us, paying attention to detail with how we prefer the meat. The onion ring sides were light and didn't taste oily at all, the broccoli with garlic and chilli and the meat sauces all added to a delicious steak dinner. Very impressed. The venue was small, it didn't feel overcrowded, and I'm hopeful that the restaurant never loses its quality. It had a great atmosphere, and the service was excellent from start to finish. I honestly don't have anything constructive to say...
Read moreLike every time we come in Cape Town every years, and that for more than 20 years....we like to bring a visit to Don Armando. We like the food there and most of the time Tony is there to welcome us. This time, I booked our favorite table for two. We had something to celebrate. The middle tabel downstairs. Upstairs is the acoustic very very bad that's why. Downstairs the back table also very bad....between the dirty things from the kitchen and depressingly looking at the toilet doors. I came personally at the restaurant on the February 14th to book" my" table. Tony promised me the table. But when we arrived on the 18th we realised that he gave the table to someone else. Even if the food is perfect, we don't want to sit anywhere. The best was that our promis table was occupied by the owner/manager of the restaurant. He sed to me "you want MY table?" And ad...." it's not possible because I always sit hire on Tuesday. " Tony should have told us when I made the booking.....we would have come a other day. Tobad now......because we will NEVER come again.....thank's to the owner him zelf......very arrogant that man. We left without eating and went to a other restaurant where we feel like a King. The customers are...
Read moreWow! This was the most incredible restaurant experience I’ve had in Cape Town for years. We are regulars at Il Leone Mastrantonio next door (sister restaurant that never disappoints) and I’ve been to Don Armando on several occasions pre-Covid and it has always been good, but this experience was truly phenomenal.
The service from our waitress was top notch — we were never left wanting water or a needing top up on wine. She was on it. The steaks were the best we’ve ever had at a restaurant! All cooked to perfection and so juicy and tender — we had T-bone and Prime Rib. The sides were equally amazing — onion rings, zucchini fries, chips and salad!
I cannot fault this restaurant. The atmosphere. The service. The food. The attention to detail. All 10/10. And I am so happy to have rediscovered this gem in my neighbourhood. It’s been a while, and I’ll be...
