I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Garden Court Victoria Junction that, unfortunately, failed to deliver a basic necessity: hot water. While the hotel had other positive aspects, the absence of hot water significantly impacted my overall experience.
My room phone was not working, I constantly had to call the front desk on my cell phone.
Upon arriving at the hotel, I was initially impressed by the courteous staff and the elegant ambiance of the lobby. The check-in process was swift, and the receptionist provided useful information about the hotel's amenities and services. The room itself seemed comfortable and clean, with tasteful decor and a pleasant view.
However, my excitement quickly turned into disappointment when I discovered the absence of hot water in the bathroom. I contacted the front desk immediately, hoping for a quick resolution to this inconvenience. Regrettably, the hotel staff informed me that there was a temporary issue with their hot water supply, and they were working to resolve it.
I understand that unforeseen maintenance issues can occur, but the lack of hot water persisted throughout my entire stay, making it difficult to enjoy basic necessities like showering and washing my face. This inconvenience negatively impacted my overall impression of the hotel.
Moreover, the hotel's response to the situation was unsatisfactory. While the staff was empathetic and apologized for the inconvenience, they were unable to provide a viable solution or alternative arrangements. This lack of proactive action left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied with the level of customer service provided.
On a positive note, the hotel did have other redeeming qualities. The bed was comfortable, and the room was generally clean. The hotel's location was also convenient, situated in close proximity to popular tourist attractions and dining options. Additionally, the hotel's Wi-Fi connection was reliable, which allowed me to stay connected and attend to work-related tasks during my stay.
Despite these positives, the lack of hot water overshadowed the hotel's other features. A hot shower is a basic expectation in any hotel, and its absence significantly impacted my comfort and overall experience.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend this hotel to others until they resolve the ongoing issue with their hot water supply. While they may have other positive aspects, the absence of this essential amenity heavily dampened my stay. I hope the management addresses this problem promptly to ensure a more satisfying experience for...
Read moreA pleasant stay overshadowed by an incident of subtle racism by one of the night managers. We were also forced to wait for over an hour for our room despite us checking in later than usual (we alerted them to this prior to arrival) we had to wait over an hour until after 9'clock at night only to be given the wrong rooms (we had to wait for over an hour because "a big group had recently checked out and the rooms weren't ready")
The racist incident situation is too subtle and complex to explain here, but it involved a certain night manager blatantly passing on anti-oppressor quotes to a paying customer (hand-to-hand) after we had some very minor complaints about the hotel and the inconvenience caused by our room switching right at 9:30 PM. When we suggested some form of recourse after the inconvenience to said night manager, he laughed in our faces. Totally un-called for and any person with such a mindset should not bring these things to paying customers, but I suppose its just a condition of the new South Africa. Luckily the incompetence and arrogant nature of the night manager in question was remedied by a reimbursement after talking to the day manager as well as the general manager who were very nice and attentive, all the staff were friendly with the exception of that single night manager. The kitchen and restaurant staff are also really friendly. The other managers also mentioned the night manager in question had a certain history of previous complaints.
The hotel itself is nice, and everything apart from what I mentioned above was in order. It's very unfortunate that the proud name of Protea has to be drawn down with such a complex and subtle case of insincerity. If the Protea group would only be so courteous as to liberate this night manager from his oppressive patrons they would be doing the future recipient of his racist front a...
Read moreThis property is a complete letdown and absolutely not a 4-star property. I’ll never go back, and I won’t be going to any other Garden Court. The management is terrible. It’s clear they’re trying to cut costs, or they’re just not interested in upholding the standards of Southern Sun.
I complained to the hotel management via Booking.com the day after my stay, but I didn’t hear anything back within 24 hours. That’s why I’m writing this review.
The hotel is in a great location, but that’s where the positives end. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. But that’s all.
The air conditioning unit in our room was broken. It turned on and turned the heating up, making it uncomfortably hot. It also made a ridiculously loud noise. The AC needed to be repaired badly.
To escape the heat, we had to open the window, but that just brought in more noise from the road. All night, the room was either very hot with a loud mechanical grinding (when the AC that didn’t work was turned on) or slightly cooler with the AC off and with a lot of noise from the road.
The staff at the restaurant were uninterested in their work and just going through the motions. Breakfast was average.
The room amenities were pathetic. We only had one bottle of still water (for a room booked for two people — and yes, I’m well aware that the expectation for bottled water is above Golden Court ‘Standard’ and something they’re ’exploring’, which says it all), and there was a tiny green all-in-one body wash/shampoo/conditioner (?). There was no smart TV either.
Overall, it was a terrible experience. I’ll never stay at another Garden Court. I strongly recommend that management step up...
