It's a nice and warm Sunday in PE, after a wet week. My partner and I were just looking to have a nice breakfast with a view, so we chose Ginger. As we walk up the stairs, a lady appears to be approaching, by this time we are debating whether to sit inside or outside. We decided to seat outside, so we picked a table and sat, minutes go by and no one is coming to take our order and the restaurant is literally empty with only 1 person seated. I eventually get up and stand by the door while 2 ladies (restaurant staff) are standing by the counter, I ask to be assisted then continueed standing by the door as the lady looked hesitant to assist, she picks up a menu and hesitantly comes towards me, by this time am turning around to go take my seat, as I sit I notice her calling a waiter, they go stand by the counter and appear to be discussing, they open a book and after that the waiter takes the menu and came to us, he tells us that the table we are seating at is reserved yet there is no tag which suggests such, I ask him if there is a problem as it looks like they are hesitant to assist, he responds that when you walk into the restaurant you wait to be seated, to which I responded "But the lady saw us, even when walking in she did not seem to want to assist, and we ended up choosing own table", furthermore, we are telling him we do not know their rules and expected them to assist and sit us down. Now that we are seated, with them fully aware we are seated but they never came to assist us, the guy reiterates that unfortunately those are the rules, you wait to be seated! At this point we realised that even if we do shift to the next table the mood is already spoilt, so we decided to leave. As we leave, an elderly white couple is coming in and they approached them to welcome them in with menus on their hand. Very disappointing to be undermined by one of your own because that's exactly what...
Read moreGinger Restaurant offers a truly delightful dining experience, boasting an excellent culinary offering and a charming atmosphere that sets the stage for a memorable evening. The food at Ginger is, in a word, great. Each dish we sampled was expertly prepared and presented, showcasing a clear commitment to quality and flavor. From the perfectly cooked main courses to the accompaniments, the kitchen truly delivers a fantastic gastronomic experience that is sure to please even the most discerning palates. Beyond the delicious food, the atmosphere was lovely. The ambiance is sophisticated yet inviting, creating a comfortable and elegant setting perfect for a special occasion or an enjoyable night out. The lighting, decor, and overall feel contribute significantly to the positive dining experience. However, while the food and atmosphere excelled, the service left a little to be desired for a restaurant of this caliber. For an establishment aiming for a luxurious experience, some basic elements were surprisingly absent. Upon arrival, I was surprised to find a self-opening door; one would expect a restaurant of Ginger's standing to have a doorman or hostess to greet guests and open the door. Furthermore, once the bill was presented and paid, our waiter seemed to vanish, making it difficult to receive further assistance or a proper farewell. These seemingly minor details can significantly impact the overall perception of a high-end dining establishment. In conclusion, Ginger shines brightly with its exceptional food and beautiful atmosphere. It's a place where you can expect to enjoy truly delicious cuisine in a wonderful setting. Should they refine their service to match the otherwise high standards of the restaurant, Ginger would undoubtedly be an unparalleled dining...
Read moreLast visited over a year ago and had delicious Karoo Rack of Lamb. So being stuck in PE for a night we hoped to do it again. Checked their online menu and didn't see it. (Menu a bit confusing as they have at least 2 different ones posted).Called ahead to make sure they had the rack of lamb and got Adrian, the "General Manager". He assured me that they did still serve it. We arrived, were seated and given menus. No rack. Asked the waitress...no rack of lamb. Disappointing. But going thru the menu the Duck l'orange looked good so I ordered that. The waitress then informed me that the duck was missing the confit leg....they "ran out ". I don't know how that is possible as I checked on Google and apparently aĺl ducks come with 2 breasts and two legs. So basically, no duck. Reduced to the dregs, I had the gnocchi. Big mistake. It was not nice. Zero flavor. Tina had the lamb shank which "wasn't bad". (The gold standard in PE).However it came with mashed potatoes which were pathetic. Kitchen must have been out of butter, cream and milk. Seemed like they just used water to make the mash. Sad. Decor is nice, service reasonable However my primary concern is for the food and as fine dining goes the kitchen has lost the plot. Adrian....get it together. Ginger USED to be fine...
