I’ve enjoyed the food at this restaurant, but my last few visits have been disappointing due to hygiene issues that have left me feeling quite uneasy. Today, I saw the owner meet with the staff to address some concerns, so it’s clear they are working on improvements, which I appreciate. However, several things have stood out that need immediate attention.

On previous visits, I experienced a waiter casually brushing a cockroach off the windowsill, sending a mist of dust from the floor sweep right onto our table. A “clean” table no longer felt clean after that. Today, another concerning incident involved a waiter with a runny nose wiping her face with the palm of her hand before using the touchscreen to enter orders. This screen was then used by other staff members, including the owner, without anyone sanitizing their hands or the screen. Watching this sequence of touchpoints left me grossed out and concerned about potential germs being spread.

Additionally, I’ve found it frustrating that you cannot get utensils for takeaways, whether ordering in person or through delivery apps. Having to eat without proper utensils is disappointing, and I’d gladly pay a small fee to avoid that inconvenience.

Despite the great flavors and quality of the food, these repeated hygiene concerns make me uncomfortable enough that I don’t feel safe returning. Cleanliness is essential, and until these issues are fully addressed, I...

DO AVOID WITH KIDS OR IF CHRISTIAN

This place went from 5 stars on my ratings over the past few months down to 1 star.

Defenitly not family friendly. Owner using vulgar profanities loudly in the morning while children were in the restaurant... continued despite seeing there is a child present... no apology offered...

I've been to few places I'd actually write a review about. Five days and three breakfasts was enough. I've never ate at a place before where a manager came to apologise for the meal being too nice and the bread too fresh before today🤣🤣🤣. Make this a stop for you at all times😁.

Came for a lunch with my previous partner and was really disappointed. Had to ask for a menu 3 times before fetching it myself. Waiters were slow and unresponsive. Our burgers could it be eaten by hand as they completely disintegrated in our hands. At least our had a good time.

Two good doesn't override one...

This fabulous little Bistro is the gem of Queen Street and undoubtedly right up there with the best Johannesburg has to offer. The food is reasonably priced and consistently excellent, with great care taken on presentation. Lovely little artisan touches elevate the ordinary to the fabulous! The waiters are friendly and attentive. We are regulars at this venue. Besides the great food, we love the ambience (- always the sound of people having a good time), the evolving unique, creative decor and the friendly, welcoming owners. We also love the fact that they support local artists and craftspeople, who regularly host exhibitions at the venue. Their support continues with the artists works being on sale amongst the artwork on display. What a great concept!! It has become a "regular" spot for a lot of the locals, which speaks volumes. May they grow from strength...

I visited the Bistro with a professional group and enjoyed the experience. The steampunk decor sets the atmosphere for a different type of venue. Pleasant, friendly and excellent service! I was a little upset that the apple pie I ordered did not arrive, but the pulled pork sandwich I ordered to take home was delicious. The meals others ordered were attractively presented. Parking is an issue as there are only three designated bays. There is, however, one designated disabled bay. It needs to be marked as such, though. From a disability perspective, the Kensington roads are uneven, so try to request the disabled bay be kept for you. There is an access ramp at the entrance. No designated accessible bathroom. While I managed with a walker, it may be an issue for wheelchairs. I will certainly visit again and sample some of their intriguing fare.

Extremely disappointing to know the owner is incredibly rude and racist for no reasons. This reason alone is why I will never come back or recommend this establishment to anyone. Attached is what the owner said to a close friend of mine. The situation was as follows, my friend booked a table and was LIED to by the waitress that they had to have the Valentine's Day set menu when this was not the case. After following up this was the owners response Absolutely disgusting how anyone can think they can speak about PEOPLE who are their customers like this
