Dominiques Cafe — Restaurant in Gauteng

I have being going to this restaurant for over 18 years. It is also where I met my partner of 16 years. Today I took my mother (her favourite) on her day out. The service was a bit slow but hey they where busy so we just enjoyed the experience. When it came to paying the bill the amount went through my card twice, my phone indicating the 2 transactions. The restaurant machine said unsuccessful. As the waiter did not know what to do nor did I as did not want to put through my card a 3rd time.i suggested he get the manager to help us. To my utter dismay after explaining the problem the manager yells at me in a full restaurant that he does not care what my phones says he wants his money now as they work on what their bank machine says. I again ask him about the reason and how do we fix it, meaning should we not credit an re debit my card. He yells no you pay me cash now, I want my money cash. Totally humiliated I paid cash and the other manger comes over to apologise. I told him I have been coming here for 18 years and I don't need to be spoken to in this manner. A customer at the table next us, tells the manager that they way I was treated and spoken to was disgusting. So it is good bye to Dominiques I will never go back. It's called voting with my Rand. Business must be good if you treat your loyal...

I used to enjoy going here because the food was great. On Father's Day they had no specials and when I asked why not as everyone else was doing it, the manager brought some free (alcohol) shots for the dad's. That was breakfast time! In the last year I feel that the place has become way too cramped. We have to squeeze into our chairs and then constantly feel the bumps of passers by as there isn't enough space to comfortably pass through. Twice we had to get up and ask for service because it's just become too busy, and there doesn't seem to be enough wiaters, or they (or the kitchen) is too slow. The last time we were there we decided never to go back. It's just too frustrating. Sorry Dominiques. You needed...

Highly recommended. Excellent value for money, HUGE variety to choose from. Our waiter, Terrence, was very helpful and friendly. We ordered drinks which arrived within 6 minutes (including a decaf capuccino and an Iced Coffee that can only be described as Frozen Perfection). Our Avo Ritz Salad and Honey Chicken Salad were generous portions and perfectly presented. Took a slice of Strawberry Cheesecake and Mozart Cake home as takeaways....both were scrumptious! PS- Upon questioning Terrence as to whether the cheesecake was very creamy, he said "All I can say is it's VERY nice. If you don't like it, come back and I will pay you back from my own money." Talk about confidence!! Can't wait to try other items...
